Summary

Technical Resource (Go-to person) and Subject Matter Expert for Electrical and Controls Center of Excellence.  Lead and Collaborate with Engineering Firms, Technology providers and Cross Functional Team to deliver Best In Class engineering design and implementation for Electrical and Controls.  Lead system design, implementation, testing, troubleshooting for capital projects and help raise organization capability via benchmarking, hands on coaching and training.  Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective and efficient collaboration across internal and external resources.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Be the “go to” person for Electrical and Controls scope of all capital projects.  Lead capital projects system design and execution.  Projects include small investment/High Complexity projects to large capital projects (up to and including brownfield/greenfield expansions). 
  2. Work collaboratively with cross functional team to deliver Safety, Compliance, Quality, Profitable Growth, and Cost.  Provide hands on coaching as the technical resource for troubleshooting electrical and control issues.
  3. Participate as a member of leadership team in the development of site masterplans.  Help sites and engineering team with designing control systems and selecting the right components for standardization.
  4. Capability Building: Build Technical capability into the organization via hands on coaching, training and troubleshooting.  Design and deliver community of practice work process.
  5. Partner with the IT team to lead the design of Perdue Standard OT platforms connecting plant floor and enterprise systems, driving improvements in Safety, Compliance, Quality, Profitable Growth and Cost.   
  6. External Benchmarking: Stay up to date on technology and equipment to enable best in class engineering design implementation on capital projects.  Attend external learning conferences (IPPE, benchmarking sessions) to learn and reapply Best in class equipment and processes to Perdue
  7. Develop specifications and standards for Electrical and controls equipment.  Responsible for continuous improvement of standards to drive business results by identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability
  8. Engineering Work Process Champion:  Champion and drive the use of Engineering Work process and tools.  Deliver VSU on Major capital projects via EWP.  using the right tools and site master plan
  9. Collaborate with External Engineering, internal resources (Commercial, R&D) to Commercialize new products and technology to Deliver Vertical Startups (Cradle to Crate project management).
  10. Electrical Safety and Maintenance – Provide guidance on best practices in regard to electrical distribution.  Be a process owner for Arc Flash, infrared studies and over all electrical maintenance.  Develop ways to reduce hazards associated with Arc Flash.
  11. Identify obsolescence and development replacement plan for controls and PLC devices, drives, distribution equipment and large motor starters (refrigeration equipment).
  12. Must be able to travel to remote facilities, plants and/or other offices.

Minimum Education

BS degree in Engineering with strong Technical expertise in PLC (Siemens, Allen Bradley, SCADA system), Controls (PID, Feedback), CAD, Project Management, Microsoft office, and good communication skills are required.  

Experience Requirements

Minimum 10 years experience. 

Experience Preferred

BS degree in Electrical Engineering, 15+ years of Electrical and Controls project design and implementation experience is preferred.  Poultry Processing experience and PMI certification is preferred.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  1. Position is active. Work activity is on the project and plant sites.  On the floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine.
  2. May need to move equipment occasionally.
  3. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
  4. Work activity is where the processing equipment is located.
  5. Work environment includes, but is not limited to, a normal office environment and construction site as well as climate extremes found in a poultry processing operation, feed mill, hatchery and a waste water treatment facility.
  6. Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.
  7. When in a plant environment:
    • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
    • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
    • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
    • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
    • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
  8. Must be able to work on and or around operating equipment.
  9. Must be trained and use Lockout/Tagout.
