 Job Title:   Special Education Paraprofessional
Supervisor:  Principal
Terms of Employment:  185 days

Job Summary
Position provides assistance to teachers in the daily instruction and care of eligible students with disabilities.   As a paraprofessional, the employee works under the direction of the teacher to monitor and address the instructional, personal, and behavioral needs of students.   Although responsible to the teacher(s) to whose classrooms he/she is assigned, the individual's overall performance is evaluated by the principal. Employees are subject to reassignment at any time by the building principal in consultation with the District Office to meet the changing needs of students with disabilities within the District.

Essential Duties

1. Assists with the implementation of students' with disabilities Individualized Education Programs under the direction of the classroom teacher(s) and/or service provider(s)
2. Assists with individual or small group instruction developed and supervised by the teacher in the assigned class(es) including but not limited to teaching, re-teaching and reviewing lessons, asking questions and prompting students and/or guiding independent work
3. Attends to the needs of students with disabilities that may include personal hygiene, lifting, feeding, toileting, monitoring supportive medical equipment, i.e., walkers, wheelchairs, etc.
4. facilitating the use of assistive technology
5. Escorts and supervises students not limited to daily arrival and school departure, transitions between classes, the playground, cafeteria, and off-site learning activities
6. Collects, charts, and reports student performance data to teachers
7. Performs general clerical tasks for assigned classroom, including maintaining student records (i.e., data books, portfolios, assignment folders)
8. Distributes, and collects instructional materials and reports
9. Assists with behavioral management programs in the classroom and implements behavior intervention plans and/or plans for independence for individual students
10. Participates in designated staff development. Paraprofessionals who may be required to physically restrain students to ensure their safety and the safety of others will be provided appropriate staff development
11. Maintains bulletin boards and classroom supply inventories, as appropriate
12. Provides ABA therapy, as appropriate. Paraprofessionals who provide this related service are required to participate in ongoing, supplemental staff development
13. Serves as an educational team member who collaborates and supports the efforts of school staff and the needs of all students with disabilities

• 60 college credit hours from an accredited college
• Associate degree
• Passing score on the Work Keys or ParaPro  

• read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
• write routine reports and correspondence;
• communicate effectively; 
• apply common sense in the delivery, understanding and following instructions in written, oral, or diagram form;
• add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and
• compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

• Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds
• Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students
• Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
• Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry
• Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
• Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
• Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone

Job Summary: 
Provide comprehensive, effective school psychological services in an accountable, ethical manner so that the needs of students are addressed and met.

Essential Duties

1. Coordinates initial psychological evaluations and the scheduling of multifactored evaluation/IEPs committee meetings within state and federal time mandates.
2. Chairs multifactored evaluation/IEP committee meetings in assigned schools concerning referred students in order to ensure that state and federal guidelines are followed and to interpret the multifactored evaluation data and participate in decision-making concerning appropriate educational placement and programs.
3. Monitors and coordinates the submission of referrals required for triennial multifactored evaluation within required timelines.
4. Assesses difficulties or referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices and completes multifactored reports which may include remedial/corrective procedures for students with identified academic/behavioral problems.
5. Confers with principals, teachers and parents as needed, as a member of the School RtI DataTeam at assigned schools, as appropriate.
6. Plans and conducts staff development programs for teachers, principals, parents and other district personnel.
7. Consults with teachers, parents and administrators concerning students with disabilities, as needed.
8. Attends professional meetings and conferences to keep abreast of promising new practices, current trends, legal issues and other areas of professional growth.
9. Facilitates or conducts individual and/or group counseling, if appropriately trained.

Other Duties
Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

•   Employee must have a Valid SC Certification as a School Psychologist II or III.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• RtI Team Experience.
• Experience in administrating/interpreting diagnostic assessments.
• Licensure as a Psycho-educational Specialist (LPES)
