Job Description: The Occupational Health Nurse is accountable for assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of the health and risks for Health Care Providers employed with Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Occupational Health Nurse integrates clinical expertise with occupational health and public health methodologies to provide confident, ethical, autonomous decisions to fulfill the Occupational Health Nurse scope of practice. 

Human Resources Exemption: No

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and/or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Occupational Health and Safety diploma

Other Education and Training

  • Occupational Health Nursing certificate is acceptable

Experience

  • Minimum one-year Public Health or Occupational Health experience is required

  • Knowledge of communicable diseases, follow up, reporting and infection control best practice
  • Knowledge of blood and/or body fluid and communicable disease exposure policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret/apply the Saskatchewan Immunization Manual (SIM)
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret/apply the Saskatchewan Communicable Disease Control Manual (SIM)
  • Coordinate the administration of biological products, according to the SIM and Medical Directives
  • Demonstrated ability to apply nursing research and best practice to support the development and revision of policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities

  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Ability to travel when required

  • Certification and maintenance of competencies required to practice as an OHN, including but not limited to the administration of biological products, anaphylaxis management, CPR (Health Care Provider) is required.
