This course is classroom only. It will cover workmanship as it pertains to welding. It is designed for individuals in the welding or fabrication fields or those who are seeking to enter the industry.

Welder Workmanship Training Course

2 Day Class:
October 14-15, 2025
1:00PM to 5:00PM

 

Class will be held at:
Maritime Training Center
360 Addsco Road
Mobile, Alabama

Course Objective:

  • Introduction as to why WWT is required by the DOD standard S9074-AS-GIB-010/248; Revision 1.
  • Defines the 6 different joint types, 5 – Basic and 1 nonstandard.
  • Structural welding positions.
  • Pipe welding positions.
  • Welding Terms & Definitions to AWS A3.0
  • Joint terminology.
  • Types of welds and weld terminology. Both groove and fillet welds. Welding Procedure Specification essential variables and how they affect productivity & quality. Brief introduction to most common welding processes. (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, SAW) Visual Inspection, before, during & after welding utilizing AWS B1.11. (Guide to Visual Inspection) Measuring tools and devices.
  • Brief introduction to Weld and Welding Symbols to AWS A2.4
  • Brief introduction to basic NDT processes (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT, ET)
  • Other codes and standards with a brief introduction to NDT – 271, Pressure pipes and tanks -278, joint detail to MIL-STD-22D, and acceptance standard to MIL-STD-2025A(SH). Other codes – API 1104, AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.5, D15.1, and D17.1
  • ABS
  • General test & specific test.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be eligible to work in the US.
