The Milford Power Plant, situated in Milford, MA, is a cutting-edge energy facility with a capacity of 203 MW. Opportunity Summary
The Auxiliary Operator at the Milford Power Plant is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of facility equipment and systems, while adhering to safety and environmental regulations. Key duties include monitoring plant operations, performing routine inspections, supporting maintenance tasks, and documenting plant activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System. The role also involves assisting with the development of standard operating procedures, conducting training, and ensuring plant cleanliness and security.
Your scope of responsibility as Auxiliary Operator includes the following primary functions:
- Operate and monitor plant equipment and systems to support safe, reliable combined-cycle operations.
- Maintain accurate shift operating logs and records, ensuring clear documentation of plant conditions and activities.
- Perform regular equipment rounds, record critical instrument readings, and promptly report abnormal conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Support maintenance activities by assisting with inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment isolation as required.
- Assist with the development, review, and implementation of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Follow established safety procedures, identify potential hazards, and take corrective actions as approved by management.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document plant deficiencies, initiate work requests, schedule tasks, and order materials.
- Complete required training and certifications while assisting in the training and mentoring of less-experienced personnel.
- Unload, handle, and transfer bulk chemicals safely; collect and analyze samples to ensure compliance with water chemistry requirements.
- Support plant start-up and shutdown activities, including equipment checks, system lineups, and communication with the Control Room Operator.
- Maintain housekeeping, fire protection, and security standards across plant areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall plant reliability and performance.

Working Relationships
The Auxiliary Operator reports to the O&M Manager and takes general direction from the Plant Manager.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The Auxiliary Operator follows a modified DuPont rotating 12-hour shift schedule, ensuring 24/7 coverage through a structured rotation of day and night shifts that includes built-in rest days to support continuous and reliable plant operations. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status will also be required.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $35 to $40 per hour, plus shift differential on all hours worked, and will include an annual performance bonus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Two years of experience in power plant machinery operations and/or maintenance, with a fundamental understanding of CCGT power plant and/or water process operations, including related roles and duties.
- Proven mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Basic PC skills for information processing and management.
- General knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
- Ability to operate a forklift and man-lift (preferred).
Education, Licenses/Certificates
- High school diploma, trade school, military service, or technical school training.
- At minimum, must currently possess a valid Massachusetts Second Class Fireman's License.
- Possession of a valid Massachusetts Second- or Third-Class Engineer's Operating License is preferred.
- Progression of all licenses covered in MGL Chapter 146 Section 50, highly encouraged and preferred, with the end goal of having obtained a Massachusetts Second Class Engineers license to qualify as a Control Room Operator.
- Valid Massachusetts Forklift Operator License is preferred.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
