Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Borough’s buildings, grounds, fields, open spaces and parks. Weekend and shift work will be required.
$3,000 Seasonal Incentive - Eligible seasonal parks laborers must work up to 40 hours a week, as needed, to be qualified for the attendance incentive. Eligible temporary employees who miss no more than 4 days (32 equivalent hours) of scheduled work will receive a lump sum payment of $3,000 (less any taxes) at the conclusion of employment. Tardiness and no-call/no-show will count as a missed day. The incentive will not be paid if the employee is terminated for cause. Seasonal employment is defined as not less than 90 days and not longer than 119 days.
General knowledge of parks, facilities, and ball field maintenance and operations is preferred. Experience and skills in power/non-power tool applications, basic plumbing, and mechanics (basic vehicle and small engine preventative maintenance) preferred. Willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require, a strong sense of teamwork, and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Knowledge of or the ability to learn departmental policies and procedures, including all safety rules and regulations. Must have physical stamina and endurance. Must have work organization skills, the ability to multi-task and work independently with little or no supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSES:
Valid State of Alaska driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the Borough’s insurance carrier.
Any combination of related education and/or related experience will be considered if the candidate possesses the demonstrated ability.
Must be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, equipment or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on stools and ladders, and routinely lift and carry items and boxes up to seventy (70) pounds.
Frequent outdoor work and exposure to inclement weather and rigorous conditions. Crawling, bending, stooping in confined areas. Shoveling or sweeping snow, and/or dirt from walkways. Sweeping and picking up litter.
