We are seeking a skilled and experienced Industrial Designer to support our team at our Houston, Texas location.


SUMMARY:

Design and develop architectural graphic elements and projects in support of marketing proposals and product manufacture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Discuss with client and other departments, a budget, background information, objectives, presentation approaches, styles, techniques, and related production factors necessary for the successful design and development of interior store displays and fixtures including product design and marketing ideas.
  • Conceptualize new components or redesign existing components based on customer requirements.
  • Evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
  • Formulate layout design concepts and research to select and secure suitable illustrative material.
  • Analyze proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.
  • Present design first to Product Development Manager and then to client and discuss need for modification and change.
  • Create, design, review, and present final layouts to customers for review.
  • Conceive production methods and materials.
  • Confer with sales or engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems prior to development of design; maintain communication throughout development process.
  • Integrate findings and concepts and prepare or coordinate preparation of working drawings from sketches and design specifications.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Develop design reports in support of product analysis.
  • Draft layout drawings in support of product analysis.
  • Coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Support project-oriented product development efforts.
  • Support manufacture of the product through communication with manufacturing.
  • Develop drawings of outer designs of products, complementing Engineering, Marketing, Production and Sales.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; 3 to 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with retail graphic design and manufacturing and production processes.
  • Experience in manufacturing and outsourcing of architectural graphics and electric sign products and applications in the oil industry retail market.
  • Understanding and of drafting practices in a manufacturing environment.
