Job Title: Membership Director  

Job Grade: 10 

FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt 

Reports to: Associate Executive Director    Revision Date: 09/04/2025 

 

Position Summary:  

The Membership Director is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the YMCA’s membership budget and operations, including acquisition, retention, engagement, and satisfaction of members. This role also provides direct supervision to wellness floor staff and personal trainers, ensuring high-quality service delivery and member experience. The director oversees the personal training revenue budget, maintains and expands corporate membership partnerships, and implements strategies for growth. The position fosters an environment where members connect with each other and the YMCA. 

 

Essential Functions:  

  1. Membership Leadership: Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to drive membership growth, retention, and engagement. Creates strategies that ensure members feel connected to the YMCA community.
  2. Corporate Partnerships: Maintains strong relationships with existing corporate partners and actively pursues new corporate membership opportunities to expand community reach and grow revenue.
  3. Revenue & Budget Oversight: Develops and manages budgets for membership operations and personal training revenue. Monitors results and adjusts strategies to meet financial and service goals.
  4. Staff Supervision & Development: Hires, trains, and supervises membership staff, wellness floor staff, and personal trainers. Provides coaching, guidance, and leadership to ensure excellence in member service and program delivery.
  5. Community Engagement: Builds and maintains positive relationships with members, volunteers, and community organizations. Acts as a liaison to volunteer committees and community partners as assigned.
  6. Quality & Compliance: Ensures compliance with YMCA policies, state and local regulations, and industry standards. Implements systems for member feedback and continuous improvement.
  7. Fundraising Support: Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
  8. Program Excellence: Ensures innovative, high-quality membership and wellness experiences through ongoing evaluation, staff training, and creative program development.
  9. Data & Reporting: Prepares and analyzes membership and revenue reports as required. Uses data to inform decision-making and measure progress toward goals.

Qualifications:  

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
  2. Two to three years of operations experience
  3. Ability to direct membership and wellness programs through supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fundraising.
  4. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  5. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships and collaborating with community organizations and corporate partners.
  6. Certifications as required by position.

 

Schedule: 

  • Varying hours depending on program schedule; may include weeknights and weekends.

 

Physical Demands: 

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
