Position Summary/Purpose: Assess student health problems and needs, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled students. May advise students on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Administer basic first aid; dispense prescribed medications; assist with medical procedures; document activities in accordance with established guidelines, assist with health screenings.

Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Administer medications to students and monitor students for reactions or side effects
- Record students' medical information
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in students' conditions
- Con?sult/ coordinate with school team to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate student care plans
- Modify student treatment plans as indicated by students' responses and conditions
- Monitor all aspects of student care, including diet and physical activity
- Provide appropriate health=related training to health personnel, administrators, and staff
- Prepare students for and assist with required treatments
- Instruct staff, students, and families on topics, such as health education and disease prevention and develop health improvement programs. Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching
- Asses the needs of students school environment and identify potential heatlh or safety problems
- Consult with insitutions or associations regarding issues or concerns relevant to the practice and profession of nursing
- Treat acute illnesses, infections, or injuries. Treat medical emergencies
- Maintain student school medical records
- Record student medical histories and complete IEP health reports as required
- Ensure that the IEP-identified health support is provided
- Administer basic first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments( (blood gluclose testing, etc.,) for the purpose of providing care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students
- Ensure the completion of health screenings (for example: vision, hearing), record screening results; contact parents as required relative to screening results
- Maintain a variety of health-related records, both manual and electronic, following confidentiality regulations and procedures- includes required student physicals/dental data
- Maintain the health office inventory and supplies for the purpose of providing a clean, safe, and orderly environment
- Monitor students referred to the health room for the purpose of ensuring their safety
- Answer and direct incoming telephone calls, greet visitors, answer a variety of questions regarding procedures practices and policy in a pleasant and professional manner
- Partiicipate in and follow established emergency preparedness guideliness during drills and emergency situations
- Monitor and supervise students in the health office and other school areas as appropriate
- Complete reports including: Health History; State of Illinois Immunication, Dental, and Vision; medical concenrs for staff review.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form with students, parents, and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position

- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative soluations, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Work independently, with individuals and in groups large and small
- As a multi-language district, we always prefer staff who are bilingual but it is not required for this position.
- Illinois Professional Educator License for School/Support Personnel with School Nurse endorsement is not required for this position.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Registered Nurse (RN)
Working conditions / Environment:
Physical Demands: walk, bend, twist, squat, stoop, reach above head, reach forward, lift up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information, sitting for prolonged periods of time
Environmental Conditions: indoor climate controlled setting (for example school office, health office, hallways, and classrooms). May include work outdoors for student assistance throughout the school year. Includes exposure to disease and/or infections.
Examples of Equipment/Supplies Used to Perform Tasks: standard office equipment including photocopiers, computers, phone, and printers; first aid medical equipment and specialized student health equipment (for example, feeding tubes, suctioning equipment, lifts).
