PACKAGING LEAD - Full Time opportunity on 2nd shift, with Night Shift Premium!
Reports To: Packaging Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Direct Reports: None
Schedule: Afternoons/Nights = 3:00pm - 1:00am, Monday through Thursday (Four - 10 hour shifts!)
Supervises: Packaging Employees
General Description: Under the direction of the Department Supervisor, the Packaging Lead provides firm, fair and consistent leadership to employees while fostering an environment of trust and open communication. The Packaging Lead assists with achieving daily production demand and ensuring the make of high-quality products. Assuring safety, quality and performance objectives are a foundational expectation for this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management deem necessary.
- Execute the company’s business goals to achieve the goals set forth by leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including but not limited to: Human resources, Good Manufacturing Processes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer protection, Safe Quality Food, and the United States Department of Agriculture
- Safely and efficiently operate production machines and/or equipment. Production equipment is used to perform production tasks such as forming, filling, wrapping, and packaging or otherwise process materials.
- Ensure that all ingredients and packaging are handled within the manufacturing facility in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, internal food safety requirements, and organic requirements and in accordance with regulatory standards that are established by GMP, OSHA, FDA, WDATCP and USDA.
- Ensures the presence, accuracy, and legibility of required information on all necessary documentation related to their department.
- Provide general direction to team members, prep for changeovers and keep production lines functional as needed to meet organizational goals and objectives.
- Properly organize storage of ingredients, materials and/or raw cheese supplies as it applies to the department.
- Assist Department Supervisor with onboarding process of new members, training, directing/re-directing actions and wins for the team.
- Lead, coach, and mentor members of the team in alignment with business objectives and goals while promoting teamwork and cohesiveness. Packaging Leads are allowed to perform first-level coaching to team members.
- Promote a safe, secure, and positive work environment for all team members.
- Responsible for food safety.
- Other duties as appropriate or assigned.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The Packaging Lead’s work performance will be evaluated by the Department Supervisor on the ability to perform and execute the essential duties and responsibilities as detailed in the job description. The evaluation process will include the evaluation of general performance factors and measurable key performance indicators. General performance indicators will include work quality, productivity, job knowledge, reliability, attendance, creativity / innovation, interpersonal skills, judgement, adherence to policy, and leadership skill. Key performance indicators will be developed with the Production Supervisor.
POSITION BACK-UP
In the absence of the Packaging Lead, the respective Department Supervisor will assign a fellow Team Member to handle their scheduled responsibilities during that day’s shift.

Education and/or Experience
Requires High School diploma or GED and/or equivalent industry knowledge. Advanced knowledge and experience of food or dairy manufacturing a plus.
Language Skills
Ability to write reports, procedures, processes, and internal e-mail correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, supervisors and other employees through oral communication in face-to-face conversations and in some instances through two-way radios and or telephone.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Computer Skills
Experience preferred.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Packaging Lead to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Packaging Lead is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk or hear. This position may require constant use of hands or fingers to effectively use a computer keyboard. In an instance where a physical inventory or an evaluation of ingredient or packaging quality is required, the Team Member may be required to lift or move up to 50LB. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIORNMENT
- Food plant environment. Must adhere to all food and plant safety policies and regulations.
- Work with chemicals for cleaning purposes.
- May require some travel.
SCHEDULE:
Afternoons/Nights = 3:00pm - 1:00am, Monday through Thursday (Four - 10 hour shifts!)
No Weekends or Holidays!
Night Shift Premium = +$2/hr from 6:00pm - 6:00am
