Women’s Apparel Buyer Description
Our client, a fast-moving general merchandise retailer, is looking for a Women’s Apparel Buyer to join their Brooklyn team. Most of the work week will be at the Coney Island office, with occasional travel to retail locations across New York and New Jersey. This role is for someone who thrives in the grey areas—comfortable with ambiguity, able to make decisions independently, and not tied to traditional corporate ways of working. You’ll own your categories from end to end while supporting a small team of Buyers. That means balancing category management with helping peers on buying tasks, coordinating with vendors and departments, and keeping projects moving—even when processes aren’t fully defined. The right person is resourceful, scrappy, and gets things done without needing handholding. If you like rolling up your sleeves, figuring things out on the fly, and thriving in a fast-paced, evolving environment, this role is for you.
** A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.**
Women’s Apparel Buyer Responsibilities
• Manage assigned categories, including product selection, inventory planning, and vendor relationships
• Support buying team with clerical, administrative, and analytical tasks
• Coordinate daily with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth operations
• Provide reporting and analysis to support buying decisions
• Conduct research and monitor industry trends to identify new product opportunities
• Assist with vendor negotiations and pricing discussions
• Maintain data accuracy across systems and support product lifecycle management
• Travel to retail store locations in NY and NJ for category reviews and business needs
Women’s Apparel Buyer Qualifications
• Prior ladieswear buying experience required
• Strong interest in discount retail and “deal making” required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills required
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a personal vehicle
• Must be able to commute to the Brooklyn HQ and retail stores 2-3x per week
