WRITTEN EXAM/INTERVIEW:
Those candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to take a written exam the week of November 10, 2025. Only those who pass the written exam will advance to interviews starting the week of November 17, 2025.
WHO MAY APPLY:
This recruitment is only open to King County Department of Local Services employees, and is being used to fill one (1) Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position which is anticipated to last up to six months, and may be used to fill future special duty positions over the next six months.
Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed their initial probation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, King County Personnel Guidelines, or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment.

Applicants will be screened for clarity, completeness, and competitiveness. The most competitive candidates may be invited to participate in one or more interviews. WORK SCHEDULE:
The work schedule will consist of five, eight-hour days in the fall/winter, Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, and four, ten-hour days in the spring/summer, Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:30 pm. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay. Working extended shifts, after-hours, mandatory overtime, weekends, callouts and holidays may be required in emergency circumstances, such as inclement weather and/or special projects, which can vary based upon business need, season and weather.
WORK LOCATION:
The current location is Black Diamond, however this posting may be used to fill future special duty positions in other locations over the next six months.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:
First Responder - Employees who, in the early stages of an incident, are responsible for protecting and preserving life, property, evidence, the environment, and restoring order.
