Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Ruby on Rails developer to assist with our e-commerce applications for two farming seed businesses: covercropexchange.com and hybrid85.com. We sell seeds to farmers and plan to expand into fertilizers and other inputs soon.
- Hybrid85 is a straightforward e-commerce platform with higher sales and revenue, offering unique product details and sales tooling.
- Cover Crop Exchange is a double-sided marketplace connecting buyers and sellers, making it a bit more complex.
- Develop and maintain web applications using Ruby on Rails, Tailwind CSS, StimulusJS, and Vite for frontend building.
- Enhance user experience and optimize performance across both platforms.
- Collaborate with our team to implement new features and functionalities.
- Code, debug, and conduct code reviews.
- Work with a shared backend admin/API application and separate client applications for each website.
- Proven experience in Ruby on Rails development.
- Familiarity with Tailwind CSS, StimulusJS, and Vite.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms and double-sided marketplaces is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate remotely.
- Need someone who is hyper-productive with Ruby on Rails, that can make quick decisions on proper tradeoffs.
- Need someone who doesn’t hesitate to complete the feature, properly tests the feature.
- Need someone who doesn’t hesitate to ask questions to get unblocked, but will search/Google for answers when necessary.

- Daily Zoom video call.
- I’ll stand as a U.S. based reference for your quality work
- I’m a software engineer of 18 years, 14 with Ruby on Rails. We’ll work closely together so we’ll learn a lot from each other.
- I will provide a subscription to Cursor editor, ChatGPT, etc.
- This is our first time hiring outside development help.
- Starting with approximately 10 hours per week, with potential to increase based on performance.
- Opportunity to grow into a larger engagement. (Starting with smaller trial project to assess skills)
- Rate is negotiable based on experience.
- A pair programming exercise will be required as part of the selection process.
