Position Overview

Texas Tool Belt is hiring Canvassers / Movement Workers to support ongoing civic engagement, electoral, and community outreach programs across Texas. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about democracy, community empowerment, and direct voter engagement.

Movement Workers are the front line of our work—building trust, sharing accurate information, and mobilizing voters through respectful, structured, and goal-driven conversations.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 30+ hours per week, including evenings and weekends
  • Schedule flexibility; shifts may change with short notice
  • Strong listening skills and ability to maintain structured, persuasive conversations
  • Comfort working both independently and within a highly structured team environment
  • Willingness to canvass alone and during early evening hours
  • Access to a charged smartphone capable of running canvassing and data apps
  • Ability to consistently meet performance metrics (doors knocked, voter conversations, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Openness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to adapt work practices based on performance metrics and coaching
  • Ability to work full shifts without set breaks
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance required
  • Basic navigation and mapping skills (mobile mapping apps recommended)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted door-to-door canvassing in assigned communities
  • Engage voters in respectful conversations about civic participation, voting, and endorsed candidates or issues
  • Distribute educational and campaign materials accurately and professionally
  • Participate in required trainings, briefings, and staff meetings
  • Accurately record all field data (doors knocked, conversations, outcomes) using the provided tools
  • Report daily results and field observations to Field Managers
  • Identify and document field challenges and propose solutions or workarounds
  • Represent Texas Tool Belt professionally and in alignment with organizational values
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
