Floor Maintenance Trainee

Salary Range: $22.02 - $25.66 Per Hour

Job Summary: This position is in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch, Night Labor and Custodial Section. Floor Care Unit. The purpose of the position is to provide assistance to journey level workers in, and learn the skills associated with, cleaning floors, carpets, and walls for areas in the Senate Office Buildings.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of Duty- 9:30pm - 6:00am This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: Work with journey level floor maintenance technicians and learns how to perform work tasks. Operates electrically powered cleaning equipment and uses hand tools and cleaning and polishing materials Obtains instruction from journey workers or supervisor to perform these and other related tasks. Monitors assigned work areas for spillage and incidental scrapes and blemishes Place climbing devices and scaffolding as instructed by the supervisor to reach high wall surfaces and ceilings. Monitor assigned work areas for spillage and incidental scrapes and blemishes. Obtains instruction from supervisor to perform maintenance on such areas as soon as possible to reduce possibility of lasting damage. Get hands-on instruction in cleaning and maintenance methods from journey level technicians. Participate in Institution of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IIRC) or equivalent training to be certified to perform work in accordance with industry standards. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions as regulated by operating procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Ability to perform standard cleaning methods for floors and carpets. (waxing and polishing hard floors using the applicable heavy duty devices).
