The Protective Relay & Control (PR&C) Technician I performs installation, commissioning, testing, maintenance and repair of protection, metering, and control systems and/or equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation of the company's Nuclear Generating Station, Startup Yard, Water Reclamation Facility and Hassayampa Pump Station.
Performs maintenance activities in accordance with station procedures and regulatory oversight from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) and Quality Assurance.
High School Diploma/GED.
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program or the equivalency of three (3) years experience as a qualified journeyman in any of the following disciplines:
Electrical, Electronics or Polyphase Meter/Relay Technician.
Able to travel to and from Palo Verde; and work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts and call outs.
Testing:
EEI MASS Test administered.
(Meets or exceeds minimum education and experience requirements per Palo Verde Procedure 01DP-0EM08, Appendix A.)
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
Able to read and comprehend electrical control schematics and wiring diagrams.
Proficiency in AC/DC electrical theory, electronic circuit fundamentals, algebra and trigonometry.
Possess basic computer skills and ability to comprehend and utilize various vendor software programs.
Nuclear requirement:
Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.
Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.
This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

Testing Information
Tests are only administered to referred candidates. More information about our tests and the testing process can be found HERE.
A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A hands-on skills test will be administered.
A physical ability test will be administered.

This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.
Any PVGS employee may be called upon for random Fitness For Duty Testing (FFD) during scheduled working hours. Employees must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
