Roll Pass Engineering Manager - Sutton, MA

Overview:

The Roll Pass Engineering Manager will be responsible for directing Primetals engineers in the development of roll pass engineering solutions for both the Sales (pre-project) and Project Management (contract) teams. The pass designs developed will be used to define/confirm equipment selections and process routes and will allow for the successful production of finished hot rolled sections in proposed, new, or existing rolling mills. Such rolling mills will produce a wide variety of finished and semi-finished products such as angles, flats, rebar, wire rod, etc. with applications in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Key responsibilities include implementation of roll pass engineering solutions at customer sites through direct or remote support.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include the following:

• Direct and train employees to perform calculations, or modify calculation methods, related to determining rolling loads associated with the hot rolling of long products. This includes determining separating forces, torques, roll strengths, motor powers, pass spread, pass reduction, section speeds, roll speeds, etc. These calculations will be used in determining equipment size for new mills and/or capability of existing equipment for new processes.
• Provide internal/external technical support for the implementation of new pass designs in new or existing rolling mills.
• Collect and/or analyze field data using torque measurement equipment, load cells, pyrometers, laser speed gauges, etc.
• Create and/or revise drawings associated with pass designs such as rolling diagrams, pass details, mill rolls, etc.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial or metallurgical engineering.

Knowledge of rolling mill pass design with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.

Knowledge and experience in Finite Element Analysis related to rolling processes, preferably with Transvalor FORGE software.

Experience working in a rolling mill environment and in a supervisory role.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

Knowledge and experience in CAD software technologies.

Knowledge of ASTM/DIN and other international specifications related to long product requirements.

Possess interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and constructively in a varied environment.
