About the Department

The mission of the TB Control Program is to interrupt the transmission of TB in Seattle and King County. It provides evaluation and treatment to individuals diagnosed with or suspected of having active TB and those who are exposed to the infection recently. The research unit conduct programmatically relevant studies concerning diagnosis, clinical management and prevention of TB infection and disease.

Under the direction of the Senior research coordinator, performs duties such as provide general support of the research team with enrollment, consent, tracking and managing Case Report Forms (CRFs), managing study results and data entry, monitoring the research data base, making sure research specimens are processed and shipped per protocol and assisting with quality management process.

This vacancy can also be filled as a Special Duty opportunity. For Special Duty Assignment interest, you must be a Career Service, Career Service Exempt or other regular (non-temporary) employee in King County who has completed their initial County probation. You must have supervisor approval prior to taking a Special Duty Assignment.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM

Work Location

The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of remote and onsite work. The successful candidate may be expected to report to the office for onsite work typically (2-3 times per week).  The frequency of onsite work may vary based on business or operational needs and be adjusted accordingly. The primary onsite location is Harborview Medical Center 325 Ninth Ave. Seattle, WA 98104. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Position Duties

• Screen and assess patients’ eligibility for study participation 
• Ensure valid informed consent is obtained for participants and maintain informed consent document binders 
• Track study activities for participants such as laboratory results, clinical tests and measurements, scheduled and unscheduled visits per study protocol 
• Maintain adequate and accurate records, case reporting forms (CRF) and certified source documents 
• Assist with enrollments and follow ups as needed 
• Assists the Principal Investigator (PI), the research nurse or the senior research coordinator in reporting AE and SAE within the established timeline 
• Perform and monitor data entry into the TBTC portal within established timeline 
• Assist with routine data verification and quality control, ensuring data integrity and consistency with prescribed study protocol 
• Participate in the site quality management activities 
• Participate in study specific trainings, webinars, conference calls and scientific meetings 
• Assists the senior research coordinator in developing start up plans for each specific studies 
• Coordinate specimens process and shipment according to study protocol 
• Maintain study specific regulatory files and binders 
• Perform other tasks as delegated by the senior study coordinator

Minimum Qualifications

Ideal Candidate:

• Working experience in clinical settings or in healthcare related to infectious diseases such as TB, HIV or STD
•  Prior experience as a research assistant or entry-level research position 
• Some experience with data entry and basic understanding in clinical trial management 
• Some knowledge of HIPPA and trial regulations 
• Experience with scheduling appointments, communicating with patients or participants and other clinical staff

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as sciences, nursing, chemistry, biology or related health science 
• 2 years of experience in a health care or clinical setting 
•  Knowledge about FDA regulations and GCP principles 
• Experience with data entry, databases and other relevant software 
• Experience in study planning, implementation and monitoring
