Summary of Position

Accountable to lead and manage all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and systems for Reading Alloys (Robesonia, PA) and Telex Metals (Croydon, PA). Provides professional EHS expertise to Reading Alloys and Telex Metals consistent with USDOL OSHA, US DOT, PADEP, US EPA and similar Federal and State regulatory agencies. Directly responsible for the continuous improvement of all Company EHS activities through the implementation of EHS programs, process improvements, leadership development and individual employee EHS training. The focus of all Company EHS activities is the establishment of “Zero Injuries”, through the continual reduction of risks and the implementation of best practice EHS programs and systems.


  

Duties and Responsibilities

Short-term deliverables include:

1. Provide professional EHS expertise and leadership to deliver a robust and sustainable EHS culture for the Business. 

2. Identify and assess risks throughout the Reading Alloys and Telex Metals facilities. Develop and implement sound, proactive control measures consistent with our journey to zero injuries and zero environmental incidents culture.

3. Lead and manage Safety Management System and all EHS programs for both PA sites to ensure worker safety and compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies. Must operate with credibility as an EHS technical expert with the ability to implement EHS solutions. Align Reading Alloys and Telex Metals EHS initiatives with Kymera International Corporate Compliance directives and programs. 

4. Coach, lead, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors and employees to achieve EHS objectives and to support individual employee EHS knowledge and development. Develop and implement training programs to ensure all workers have current EHS knowledge. 

5. Create and implement site-specific EHS practices, procedures, metrics, systems and structures to align with best practices and safety regulations.  

6. Regularly conduct Plant EHS audits and assess Plant EHS Risks. Identify and implement changes to mitigate any risk, improve facility EHS programs, increase the effectiveness of all EHS programs and, where prudent, reduce cost. 

7. Serve as the champion for all Incident Management systems at both PA sites. Urgently lead investigations into incidents and accidents and drives corrective action efforts for all types of incidents, regardless of severity. Focus will be on near miss and first aid injuries to drive continual improvement to meet the goal of “Zero Injuries”.

8. Responsible for annual/ periodic review of all EHS programs at Reading Alloys and Telex Metals. Responsible for all location industrial hygiene programs. Promptly communicate all results to Plant Management and ensure prompt corrective action where needed.

9. Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all EHS, USDOL OSHA, US EPA and similar regulatory reports, logs and forms for both PA sites. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual EHS reports for use by Kymera International, Reading Alloys, and Telex Metals Management which document and communicate applicable EHS metrics and benchmarks.

10. Serve as the primary contact with USDOL OSHA, US EPA, PADEP and similar regulatory agencies where applicable. Function as a member of the Leadership Team for both PA sites. Operate as the Reading Alloys and Telex Metals spokesperson in the event of a significant site accident or environmental incident.

11. Accountable for the effective and efficient allocation and use of all EHS resources at PA sites. Accountable to establish and communicate the annual EHS A3 plan and its portion of the operations budget. Ensure that all EHS activities operate consistently with the plan and the budget. Work with internal and external experts to establish world class EHS programs and systems.

12. Responsible for the management of the site Safety Data Sheets for finished product. Support US DOT and International Hazmat shipping directives.

13. Review applicable Capital Projects to ensure each project meets/ exceeds all EHS standards and Management of Change and safe startup requirements.

14. Support property and worker’s compensation insurance initiatives. Facilitate and assist the property insurance company by scheduling and participating in periodic facility audits. Follow up to address and implement corrective actions where applicable.

Requirements

BS - Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Applied Science, Engineering or similar major. 5 - 10 years of demonstrated EHS leadership and success in a primary metals manufacturing environment with an appropriate progression of increased responsibility. Eligible to be certified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Expertise to use equipment designed to inspect, test, monitor, and measure environmental levels. Hands-on experience with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs and systems in a manufacturing environment. Proven verbal and written communication skills which enable the incumbent to provide effective and meaningful EHS direction and training to Company employees, customers, division and corporate management. Demonstrated skills with PC office applications such as MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
