Manchester University seeks a dedicated and professional University Safety Officer to join our Student Life team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students, employees, and visitors. Reporting to the Director of University Safety, the Safety Officer enforces University policies and regulations, responds to emergencies, and helps foster a welcoming campus atmosphere.
Patrol the campus to ensure safety and respond to emergencies, including fire, weather events, and crimes.
Assist crime victims with reporting processes and provide referrals to appropriate resources.
Maintain security of University buildings, including scheduled lock/unlock procedures.
Monitor parking areas and roadways; enforce traffic and parking regulations.
Provide escort services, unlock assistance, and motorist aid when requested.
Liaise with local emergency services (police, fire, EMS).
Conduct investigations, write incident reports, and maintain safety logs.
Support University events with traffic direction and safety services.
Assist in training new staff, supervising student employees, and facilitating safety programs.
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Prior experience in law enforcement or security preferred.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Successful completion of background check and pre-employment evaluations.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use police radios and related equipment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, handle multiple priorities, and respond appropriately in emergencies.
Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions.
Must be able to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
