POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Behavior Technician is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior analytic services. The RBT will provide 1 on 1 services to beneficiaries with autism in the home and community setting. A caseload typically includes children between the ages of 2 and 18, but is not limited to that age range.

 

Salary: $35,000 annually

Schedule: Schedules are determined based upon client need and availability. Schedules will be determined two weeks before the start of each month by the program supervisor. Hours may range from 8:00am to 6pm.

Monday-Friday; 9AM-5PM

Location: Mascoutah and Surrounding Areas

 

REPORTS TO:  Clinical Director and BCBA case supervisor

 

 

NETWORK OR DEPARTMENT: Network 8

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

RBT Development:

  • Implements Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) under the direction of the behavior analysts.
  • Develops program plans and other instructional activities
  • Assists in creating instructional materials

 

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Completes daily paperwork and data collection notes in a detailed, accurate, consistent and timely manner
  • Ensures that all documentation is accurate and upholds Trinity Services’ mission, values, and operational needs
  • Writes session notes accurately, and other requested written assignments related to the clients
  • Observes records, and reports the condition and behavior of the clients, including maintaining daily records during the day

 

RBT Implementation and Support:

  • Applies behavioral principles consistently in all interactions with clients
  • Teaches the clients to acquire language, academic, self-help, and social skills as stated in the BIP
  • Assists students, as needed, to acquire academic and/or appropriate life skills. This may include toilet training, eating, and other self-help skills
  • Supports all members of the staff and assists with ideas, suggestions and work duties
  • Works with clients, consultants, staff, families, and community to implement client's treatment plans
  • Implements behavior plans consistently to reduce client's socially inappropriate behavior and promote appropriate social behaviors

RBT Interaction and Communication:

  • Participates actively in staff training programs designed to increase overall skills
  • Communicates in a professional and respectful manner with parents, behavior analysts, therapists, clients, and other Trinity staff
  • Becomes fluent in the understanding of the PEAK Relational Training Program and other assessments
  • Functions as an active member of the treatment team
  • Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations which may include client physical aggression

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Be able to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted
  • Be able to push and pull 75 pounds
  • Be able to push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Operate motor vehicles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and telephone
  • Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

All new employees will be required to successful complete the RBT credentialing process and will shadow a senior technician or BCBA for a minimum of two weeks before being given clients on their own. Additionally, new hires are required to be trained in Adult Safety Care and Basic Life Support. All training is provided and paid for by Abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Human Services (i.e., psychology, social work, special education)
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs preferred but not necessary
  • Knowledge of basic behavioral principles
  • Pass a federal background check
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and reliable transportation
