About the Department
The Recreation Associate supports the daily operations of assigned recreation facilities by providing excellent customer service, assisting with facility rentals, and supporting various recreational programs, including after-school care, athletics, and special events. This part-time role requires flexible availability and includes evening and weekend hours. The Recreation Associate plays a key role in promoting a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for all facility visitors and participants.
Position Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet visitors, answer phones, and assist with inquiries regarding programs, services, rentals, and payments
- Schedule and manage facility rentals for events, including setup and breakdown
- Support special events, including registration, logistics, and participant engagement
- Provide hands-on support during summer camps and full-day programs
- Assist in managing athletic programs: scheduling games, registering participants, and providing on-site coordination
- Ensure safety and positive behavior management during all program activities
- Assist with marketing facility events and services to the community
- Maintain positive relationships with staff, participants, and parents
- Drive department vehicles (including 15-passenger vans, golf carts, and buses) as required
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory training
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Knowledge of basic recreational programming and facility operations
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for community recreation
- Strong customer service orientation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility software preferred
- Comfortable working with diverse age groups, especially youth
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively
- Willingness to take initiative and solve problems efficiently
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 17 years old
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
- CPR/AED certification (or obtained within 30 days of employment)
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Some college coursework in recreation, sports management, or a related field
- Previous experience working in recreation, childcare, customer service, or athletics
- Experience operating buses or large vehicles (preferred but not required)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed in recreation centers, gymnasiums, athletic fields, and outdoor environments
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and active supervision
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
- Must be able to move freely and react quickly in active program areas
- Occasional exposure to loud noise and crowded settings
- Must wear county-approved uniform and name badge
