PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The behavior consultant is a member of the educational team, supports the education of students suspected of and/or diagnosed with disability in the least restrictive environment. The behavior consultant assists students that need educational services due to behavior issues and provides consultation services to teachers and staff that are implementing services to students with behavior issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess Bachelor’s Degree in human services, education, or special education and/or have behavior certification/training.
2. Have demonstrated experience in working with students with emotional disabilities, autism, cognitive disabilities, or other disabilities that effect behavior.
3. BCBA is preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.
Consult with teachers who have Emotional Disability students, students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, or students with severe behavior issues.
Consult with RTI teams that have general education students with severe behavior issues.
Must be able to begin the position with the ability to complete Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students with severe behavior issues.
Consult with self-contained ED classroom teachers to ensure that their programs are effective.
Collaborate with community mental health service providers regarding students with severe behavior issues.
Meet with the Behavior Specialist regularly to discuss student progress.
Work collaboratively with and support assigned School Psychologist.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
