Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing €100 million of funding in 2025 to develop our unique technology.
Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!
As part of a fast-moving quantum computing start-up, the Building & Facilities Maintenance Technician will ensure the smooth operation, safety, and compliance of all building systems and site infrastructure. This includes maintaining critical laboratory environments, clean rooms, cryogenic facilities, and core building services across multiple development sites. The role demands adaptability, a proactive approach, and the ability to work in an environment where R&D priorities can shift rapidly.
Responsabilities Facilities & Infrastructure MaintenanceCarry out preventive and corrective maintenance on: HVAC systems for clean rooms and laboratories (temperature, humidity, and particle control)Cryostat-supporting infrastructure (cooling water, compressors)Electrical distribution and backup systems (including UPS and generator checks)Plumbing, purified water systems, and compressed gas linesBuilding structure, security systems, and controlled-access installationsReact quickly to unplanned breakdowns to minimize R&D disruption.Laboratory & Quantum Facility SupportMaintain clean room integrity by monitoring pressure differentials, filtration, and gowning protocols.Assist in the safe operation and support of cryogenic systems, following specialist engineers’ guidance.Monitor and support environmental conditions vital for quantum hardware stability (e.g., temperature stability, vibration control).Safety, Compliance & StandardsWork in accordance with ISO 45001 occupational health & safety, ISO 14001 environmental management, and ISO 50001 energy efficiency principles.Support risk assessments, incident reporting, and the control of hazards specific to high-tech laboratories (e.g., cryogens, high voltage, laser safety).Maintain safe work practices in line with NEBOSH and company safety training.Monitoring, Reporting & DocumentationUse the CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to log all work orders, inspections, and repairs.Maintain accurate service histories for facility and lab support equipment.Provide daily/weekly reports to the Maintenance Planner on system performance and urgent issues.Emergency Preparedness & Rapid ResponseRespond immediately to alarms or urgent issues (HVAC failure, power loss, water leaks, cryostat cooling interruption).Participate in crisis simulations and support emergency interventions following the company’s crisis management plan.Continuous Improvement & Start-up AgilityIdentify and propose cost-effective improvements to facility reliability, safety, and energy use.Support rapid prototyping or ad-hoc facility modifications needed for evolving R&D projects.Embrace multi-skilled work to adapt to the varied demands of a growing start-up.ProfileEducation: Technical diploma or vocational certificate in mechanical, electrical, building services, or HVAC engineering**.**Experience: 3+ years in building/facility maintenance in a high-tech, semiconductor, research, or clean room environment; start-up experience is a plus.Knowledge:Clean room systems & contamination controlCryogenic safety principles -> optionalBuilding automation systems (BMS)Energy efficiency measuresISO management systems awarenessSkills:Strong troubleshooting and quick decision-making under pressureAbility to work independently and in cross-functional teamsCompetence in reading technical diagrams and SOPsCertifications (desired):HVAC/EPA refrigerant handling certificationCleanroom operations trainingBasic cryogenic safety trainingBenefits 25-day vacation policy (as per French law) + RTTHalf of transportation cost coverage (as per French law), or yearly allowance for the die-hard bicycle usersCompetitive health benefits with Helium/AxaMeal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped kitchenParental benefits with crèche supportFlexible remote policy, up to 40 % a monthLanguage courses covered by the companyMental health support with moka.careSubsidized membership with Urban Sports ClubRecruitment ProcessScreening Call with Alex Talent Acquisition Specialist (30 min)Hiring Manager Interview with one of the Experimentalist Team Leader (45 min)Technical Interview/Presentation with the Team (60 min)Leadership and Fit Interview (45 min)Research shows that women might feel hesitant to apply for this job if they don't match 100% of the job requirements listed.
