*this role is open to remote working within the UK. Successful candidates will be required to travel to their closest UNiDAYS campus (London or Nottingham) on occasion.

The role in a nutshell

UNiDAYS, the world’s leading Student Affinity Network, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team for a 3-month fixed-term contract (FTC) covering a parental leave from mid-August to mid-November. With over 20 million members in 114 markets and partnerships with 800 global brands, UNiDAYS is at the forefront of connecting students with brands, delivering engagement, and driving sales.

As Legal Counsel, you will be a key advisor to our Marketing team, providing expertise on a wide range of legal matters related to advertising, compliance, and procurement. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a short time frame, working on high-profile projects and collaborating with diverse teams across the organisation.

Day to day responsibilities 

  • Marketing & Advertising Compliance:
    • Provide expert legal guidance on advertising campaigns, ensuring compliance with UK and EU advertising laws, consumer protection regulations, and industry codes.
    • Leverage strong analytical skills to assess legal risks, advise on business strategies, and address issues related to sweepstakes, giveaways, commercial campaigns/offers, and ad content creation.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including marketing, commercial, people, procurement, finance and data privacy) to provide comprehensive legal input.
  • Contract Review & Drafting:
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including service provider agreements, agency and influencer agreements, IP license agreements, and endorsement deals.
    • Draft terms and conditions for sweepstakes, giveaways and other promotions.
  • Compliance:
    • Assist in maintaining and enhancing compliance programs and policies to mitigate legal risks associated with marketing and advertising.
    • Support the customer services team with escalated customer complaints.
    • Identify and document gaps in compliance with respect to existing and emerging regulations and industry best practices.
  • Procurement:
    • Review and advise on ongoing procurement contracts, including supplier agreements, service level agreements, and licensing agreements.
  • Legal Research & Analysis:
    • Conduct targeted research and analysis on relevant legal issues.

What we need from you

  • Qualified solicitor with experience of working within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience advising on UK/EU advertising laws and regulations.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy laws (UK GDPR, PECR, CCPA).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in an international business is a plus.
