Description
We are one of Canada's most forward-thinking real estate development, construction management and investment companies, with 4,000+ units in the pipeline and $3 billion in built value taking shape across the GTHA.
Our vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, pioneering innovation that elevates how people live, work and connect. Our mission is to revolutionize the design and development of intelligent spaces, leveraging cutting-edge technology to build sustainable, attainable environments that delight our customers and maximize investor returns.
We believe everyone we hire is a leader, and every leader at Adi operates by our Leadership Principles — they define how we hire, how we lead and how we decide. We are obsessed with our customers and we insist on excellence in everything we do. We are never satisfied with the status quo, and we are on a quest towards perfection. We hire and develop the best and give them ownership. We move with a bias towards action. We go see and dig deep to solve problems at the root. We debate, we disagree and we commit. We run lean. We think big and deliver big results. We invent and keep things simple. We earn and build trust. These aren't posters on a wall. They're the operating standard for everyone here, including you.
The role
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is accountable for the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the financial records for an assigned portfolio of corporate and project entities — from first construction draw to project close-out — and for the audits, reviews and filings that depend on them.
Accountabilities
Month-end and year-end close
Project cost accounting
Project closings and revenue
Audit, review and compliance
Budgeting and forecasting
Systems and continuous improvement
What you bring
- CPA designation, completed. We are not considering in-progress candidates for this role.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on real estate development or construction accounting — job cost, draws, holdbacks, closings. This is required, not preferred.
- Public accounting training preferred — audit or assurance at a Big Four or national firm. The strongest path into this role is public accounting followed by industry experience inside a developer or builder.
- Ownership of a full-cycle close, end to end, and experience as the point of contact for an external audit or review engagement.
- Working knowledge of ASPE and IFRS, and a solid grounding in HST as it applies to new housing.
- Advanced Excel including Power Query; you can rebuild a broken query, not just run one. Power BI is a plus.
- Experience with Sage 300 CRE, Sage Intacct, Yardi, TimberScan or a comparable construction or real estate ERP preferred. Experience with an ERP implementation is a plus.
- You raise issues early, you disagree with reasoning and commit once the decision is made, and you go to the source to resolve a question rather than wait for it to be resolved for you.
Why you'll want this role
This is not a back-office seat. The numbers you close are the buildings people live in. You'll work directly with the Controller and senior leadership on the projects that are reshaping the GTHA — landmark communities delivered across the region and the 4,000+ units that come next — and you'll learn the business the way it's actually run, from the people who run it.
The learning here is hands-on and direct. You'll sit in the rooms where decisions are made, work alongside talented people who hold a high bar, and see your work in the skyline. You'll be part of building landmark communities, shaping the cities we live in, and delivering on our mission.
We are on a mission to reinvent the industry and how projects are delivered. We are looking for missionaries who want to be part of that mission — not mercenaries looking for a job and a title.
- Employee Home Ownership Program. Eligible team members can live in the communities we build, at a discount off the purchase price.
- Learning and development reimbursement.
- Substantial paid vacation, wellness and sick days.
- Comprehensive benefits for you and your dependents — dental, prescriptions, vision, paramedical practitioners, life insurance and more.
- Health, lifestyle and wellness spending account for fitness, gym memberships, family and pet needs, and additional health benefits.
How to apply
Submit your resume and a half-page note describing one project you accounted for from first draw to close-out: what went wrong, what you fixed, and what you would build differently. The note will tell us more than the resume.
