Job Summary

The Video Technician is a hybrid Operations and Production role responsible for advanced video equipment preparation, quality control, and maintenance within the warehouse, while also serving as a lead technician & operator on live productions. This role ensures that video systems are properly built, tested, configured, and show-ready prior to deployment and are executed safely and professionally onsite.

Approximately 50% of this role’s time is spent in the warehouse pulling, QC’ing, configuring, repairing, and maintaining video systems. The remaining 50% is spent on live events leading video crews, building LED walls, configuring signal flow, switching cameras, and supporting Technical Directors in show execution. The Video Technician operates under the direction of a Technical Director onsite and partners closely with the Warehouse Specialist – Video, Project Managers, and Department Leadership to maintain accuracy, readiness, and operational excellence.

Essential Functions

Video Warehouse Operations & Equipment Preparation (Approx. 50%)

  • Pull, prepare, configure, and QC video equipment per project pull sheets and technical specifications.
  • Perform detailed quality control on:
    • LED panels and modules
    • LED processors (Novastar, Brompton, etc. Firmware updates)
    • Cameras (Blackmagic, Sony, PTZ)
    • Video switchers (ATEM, Christie)
    • Projection systems (Epson, Christie, Panasonic)
    • Assist with video engineering task and rack configuration. (Build and maintain)
    • Routers, converters, playback systems
    • Fiber, SDI, HDMI, CAT6, and power cabling
  • Build and test LED walls including tile QC, module swaps, alignment checks, and signal verification.
  • Configure processors and basic system settings under department standards.
  • Diagnose signal flow issues and troubleshoot faulty cables or connectors.
  • Build and repair SDI, CAT6, and video cable assemblies.
  • Document gear issues and escalate advanced repairs as needed and work with outside vendors to complete repairs.
  • Maintain accurate scanning, tracking, and documentation within Flex Rental Solutions.
  • Ensure all equipment is labeled, staged, packed, and transport ready load and unload trucks safely.

 Live Event Execution & Crew Leadership (Approx. 50%)

  • Serve as Video Technician onsite, leading small video crews as assigned.
  • Build and deploy LED walls, projection systems, camera packages, and switching systems.
  • Run, label, terminate, and test video, fiber, and data cabling onsite.
  • Lead video load-in and load-out workflows under TD supervision.
  • Lead truck unloads and loads onsite.
  • Operate video switchers, playback systems, or camera shading as assigned.
  • Assist with camera builds, signal routing, and system configuration.
  • Perform onsite troubleshooting of signal, routing, LED, or projection issues.
  • Maintain a professional presence and safety-first approach during all productions.
  • Provide clear communication to the TD and Production leadership regarding system status and risks.

 Technical Director Support

Under the direction of a Technical Director, the Video Technician may:

  • Assist with system configuration and signal routing strategy.
  • Support camera switching and show calling execution.
  • Provide input on LED wall mapping and processor setup.
  • Help identify system risks and recommend solutions.
  • Support troubleshooting of advanced signal flow or networking issues.
  • This role does not independently serve as the Technical Director unless explicitly assigned.

 Cross Department & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with Audio, Lighting, and Rigging teams for integrated system deployment.
  • Assist Warehouse Specialist – Video during peak prep cycles.
  • Support Drivers and Logistics during gear staging and return.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and documentation standards.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

 

Experience & Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in video production, AV systems, or live event environments.
  • Experience with LED wall systems, video switching, and signal flow required.
  • Working knowledge of Novastar, Brompton, Blackmagic, ATEM, Analog Way, Christie, Epson, or similar systems preferred.
  • Experience in both warehouse prep and onsite execution is strongly preferred.
  • Flex Rental Solutions experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of video signal flow and system integration.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build, configure, and troubleshoot LED and projection systems.
  • Excellent mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Ability to lead small crews onsite without formal supervisory authority.
  • Strong organizational and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to stay focused and maintain composure in stressful or time-sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); ability to learn Flex or similar systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational needs with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to occasionally work overtime, evenings, and weekends.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Work Environment:

  • This position will be split between working in or around a warehouse environment and on event show sites that may be indoors or outdoors and exposed to weather conditions, dirt or dust. 

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional periods of sitting with frequent periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing and balancing.

 Lifting:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and exert force up to 75 pounds occasionally.

 Vision & Hearing:

  • Must be able to distinguish colors, use close vision for computer screens/documents, use distance vision and have the ability to judge depth perception and spatial awareness for safety precautions.
  • Must be able to hear sufficiently to understand and comprehend individual conversations and listen for potential safety precautions.

Noise:

  • The noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate with standard business office equipment and may increase to occasional loud noise levels with large production gear or equipment moves.
