Akicita Federal is hiring Primary Care Physicians to deliver comprehensive, veteran-centered primary care for the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton, OH. In this role, you will dedicate the majority of your time to direct patient care — seeing veterans through clinic appointments, phone consultations, and coordinated follow-ups — while making a meaningful difference in the health outcomes of those who served. This is a full-scope clinical position with a small administrative component focused on quality improvement and peer collaboration.
- Evaluate patients, diagnose conditions, and deliver evidence-based clinical treatments within the facility's authorized scope of practice.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory panels, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiograms to guide clinical decision-making.
- Prescribe and manage patient medications in accordance with VA formulary policies and established guidelines.
- Conduct advance care planning discussions with patients, including end-of-life preferences and goals-of-care conversations.
- Coordinate referrals and consultations with clinical sub-specialists, and manage transitions of care including discharges and follow-up arrangements.
- Perform core clinical procedures such as abscess incision and drainage and fecal occult blood testing.
- Complete accurate clinical documentation and select appropriate E&M procedure codes in CPRS/EHR at the close of each patient encounter, and communicate test results to patients in timely compliance with VA notification standards.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice (Family Practice must align with ACC Standards)
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- Current curriculum vitae (CV) demonstrating professional qualifications commensurate with primary care practice
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from a VHA-approved provider, or demonstrated equivalency
- Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) with confirmed Taxonomy Code
- Current, valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate
- Technical proficiency in English — ability to speak, understand, read, and write fluently
- Compliance with standard infection control requirements including negative TB testing and documented immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and acellular pertussis
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience providing primary care within a VA, DoD, or other federal healthcare setting
- Familiarity with the VA's CPRS/EHR electronic health record system and VA-specific documentation workflows
- Experience caring for veteran populations, including familiarity with service-related conditions and polytrauma considerations
- Background in social determinants of health screenings and initiating community resource referrals, particularly for housing-insecure patients
- Active participation in quality improvement, peer review, or patient safety initiatives within a clinical setting
