Description

Director of Business Systems

Location: Houston, TX
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Department: Strategic Initiatives
Reports To: Director of Strategic Initiatives

Job Summary

The Director of Business Systems owns, integrates, and evolves Enterprise Electrical’s software ecosystem with a clear mandate to connect systems, enable data visibility, and deploy AI-driven capabilities that translate strategic vision into real, working solutions.

This is a builder role, not a maintainer role. You will serve as the technical execution arm of the Strategic Initiatives team, responsible for mapping and integrating the full technology stack, eliminating inefficiencies, and deploying automation and AI-enabled workflows that improve how teams operate across the business, from the field to the front office.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in systems integration, business systems management, or digital transformation, along with proven success implementing AI tools and workflow automation in a business environment. A construction background is helpful but not required. What matters most is a builder mindset, strong execution ability, and the drive to deliver measurable results quickly.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Map and document the company’s full software ecosystem end-to-end, identifying integration gaps, redundancies, and inefficiencies
  • Design and implement integrations across ERP, project management, BIM, estimating, HRIS, and field platforms
  • Build and maintain middleware and API connections using tools such as Zapier, Make, or Power Automate
  • Ensure clean, reliable data flow across systems and eliminate manual processes and duplicate entry
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new tools aligned with the company’s technology roadmap
  • Identify and deploy high-value AI use cases across operations, estimating, reporting, and forecasting
  • Implement AI-enabled workflows such as automated reporting, document processing, and predictive insights
  • Leverage tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and construction-specific AI platforms
  • Apply prompt engineering and automation to operationalize AI across departments
  • Design end-to-end workflows across the full project lifecycle from estimating through operations, finance, and field execution
  • Lead rollout, training, and change management to ensure adoption across teams
  • Build structured data environments to support automation, reporting, and analytics
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools that provide actionable business intelligence
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, finance, BIM/VDC, and preconstruction teams
  • Report on system performance, integrations, AI deployment progress, and ROI to leadership

  • Expert ability to integrate and optimize multi-platform software ecosystems using APIs and middleware
  • Proven experience implementing AI tools and workflows in a business environment
  • Strong proficiency with automation platforms such as Zapier, Make, or Power Automate
  • Ability to design scalable workflows that eliminate manual processes
  • Experience with SaaS platforms including ERP, project management, HRIS, and field systems
  • Strong data structuring and reporting capabilities
  • Builder mindset with a preference for creating and executing solutions from scratch
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value
  • Execution-focused with a track record of delivering practical, working solutions
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and build structure where none exists

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May oversee business systems analysts, automation specialists, or AI-focused team members as the function grows
  • Initially operates as an individual contributor working closely with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Office-based with regular collaboration across operations and field teams
  • Standard weekday schedule with flexibility based on project and system deployment needs
