Job Title: Systems Manager
Starting Hourly Rate: $32.62 Pay Grade: 26
Location / Department: Xenia Community Library / Information Technology
Reports to: Information Technology Coordinator
Employment Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Full time 40 hours per week (schedule includes daytime, evening and weekend hours)
Job Objective
To promote the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library. To carry out objectives and goals of the strategic plan to better serve the community. Leads the IT Support team to deliver reliable, secure, and customer-focused technology services for staff and the public. Responsible for both supervising day-to-day IT support operations and hands-on systems management.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions
- Supervises IT Support Specialists; assigns work, sets priorities, and develops staff skills.
- Interviews, selects, onboards, and trains new staff; evaluates staff performance and coaches them through complex issues.
- Manages incident and trouble ticket response through hands-on resolution, team collaboration, leadership and delegation of tasks to meet service standards of 2-hour response time and resolution targets of two business days or less.
- Leads and performs, integrations, security, service integrity, and backups of systems and endpoints.
- Advises Information Technology Coordinator of Information Technology on technology needs, risks, improvements, and lifecycle planning.
- Manages the design of public access and staff systems, including disk imaging, group policy administration, endpoint security, disk protection, and mobile device management.
- Leads and administers SaaS platforms (including Microsoft 365) using established best practices and security controls.
- Directs, contributes, and maintains technical documentation for operations and procedures. Ensures documentation meets style and formatting guidelines.
- Adheres to strict guidelines in the maintenance and management of confidential information.
- Interacts and communicates with vendors for support and project management.
- Keeps abreast of current developments and best practices in the library and technology field through attendance at and participation in conferences and workshops and through programs of continuing education, professional reading, training, and participation in professional groups.
- Reliable predictable attendance.
- The supervisor may require other related duties. These duties are nonessential functions of this position.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to maintain good relations with the public and other staff, individually and in general, shows tact and courtesy.
- Intermediate to advanced ability in computer, network, and server administration including Windows/macOS; virtualization familiarity preferred.
- Ability to lead staff through delegation, coaching, performance management, and scheduling/coverage planning.
- Basic understanding of integrated library systems and library cataloging.
- Experience managing patron computer and printer access and reservation control systems.
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical staff.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including handling complex technical issues and recurring root-cause analysis.
- Must be flexible and work effectively in a team environment.
- Clear, concise status reporting (verbal and written) to keep leadership aware of progress, blockers, and upcoming milestones to ensure relevant and actionable updates.
- Ability to escalate issues appropriately while recommending options by recognizing impact, urgency, and risk.
- Ability to manage confidential information; complies with library policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, or related degree required: or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in IT support, system administration; or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
- Public library experience supporting multi-site environments. (preferred)
- 1+ years leading staff or serving as a lead technician. (preferred)
Environmental Conditions
- Ability to work extended periods at a computer and perform repetitive keyboard/mouse tasks.
- Ability to lift/move computer equipment (workstations, printers, peripherals) as needed.
- Ability to occasionally kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, and (as applicable) climb ladders and work in closets/utility spaces for cabling and equipment.
- Employee may be scheduled to work evening and weekend hours, including Sundays; schedules may be altered depending on the needs of the library.
