Position Overview

The Master Electrician/Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day field operations on commercial electrical projects, ensuring all work is installed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Michigan electrical code, and company standards. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader who can manage crews, coordinate with GC/owners, and solve complex field issues while maintaining a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise crews of journeyman and apprentice electricians on commercial projects (tenant improvements, ground‑up, service work, and remodels).
  • Plan, lay out, and delegate daily tasks based on drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, one‑lines, riser diagrams, and submittals; verify field conditions and proactively resolve conflicts.
  • Coordinate material, tools, and equipment needs with the office/warehouse; minimize downtime and waste on site.
  • Ensure all installations meet NEC, Michigan electrical code, and local inspection requirements; prepare for and support inspections.
  • Enforce and model company safety policies; lead job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and incident‑prevention measures.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and support commissioning of lighting, power, and specialty systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to sequence work and resolve schedule or coordination issues.
  • Track labor hours and productivity; provide input on change orders, punch lists, and project close‑out.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate apprentices and junior electricians, supporting their growth and adherence to company standards.

Requirements

  • Active State of Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician License (required as a condition of employment and ongoing supervision responsibilities).
  • 5+ years of commercial electrical experience, including ground‑up or major renovation work.
  • 2+ years in a lead, foreman, or supervisory role managing field crews.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, Michigan electrical code, and relevant building and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret plans/specs, generate accurate material lists, and sequence work efficiently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety and familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
