About Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is a growing, physician-led orthopedic practice serving Chicago and surrounding communities. Our team provides comprehensive musculoskeletal care across outpatient clinics, surgical centers, and multiple hospital systems.
We are expanding our Advanced Practice Provider team and are launching a structured, mentorship-focused training year designed specifically for new graduate PAs and NPs pursuing a career in orthopedics.
Program Overview
The Orthopedic APP Clinical Fellowship is a 12-month, full-time, paid transition-to-practice program that provides immersive training across clinic, hospital, and surgical settings.
This is an employment-based, non-accredited fellowship-style program that combines hands-on experience, mentorship, and progressive responsibility to prepare APPs for independent orthopedic practice.
Fellows train across the full continuum of care, including:
- Outpatient orthopedic clinic
- Inpatient hospital rounding and consults
- Operating room first assist
- Perioperative management
Upon completion, fellows transition into a permanent Orthopedic APP role within the practice.
What You Will Learn
During the program, you will develop competency in:
- Independent orthopedic evaluations and treatment plans
- Fracture and acute injury management
- Post-operative care and rounding
- Emergency department and inpatient consults
- Surgical first assist skills
- Injections, splinting, casting, and in-office procedures
- Care coordination between surgeons, hospitals, and clinic teams
Core Responsibilities
Responsibilities increase gradually throughout the program and may include:
Clinic
- New and established orthopedic patients
- Post-operative visits
- Injections and minor procedures
- Imaging review and treatment planning
Hospital
- Daily inpatient rounding
- ED and floor consults
- Orders and discharge planning
- Documentation within 24 hours
Operating Room
- Surgical first assist
- Pre- and post-operative care coordination
Care Coordination
- Serve as liaison between hospital staff and surgeons
- Ensure continuity of care across settings
Schedule
- Full time
- Monday to Friday with occasional weekend call coverage
- Combination of clinic, hospital, and OR days
- Rotations across multiple sites
- Rotating call coverage with mentorship support
Requirements
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program
- Board certified or board eligible
- Eligible for Illinois licensure
- Strong interest in orthopedics and surgery
- Coachable, team-oriented, and motivated to learn
- Comfortable working in fast-paced clinical environments
Orthopedic or surgical experience preferred but not required.
