Assistant Estimators will assist with the preparation of project estimates by performing detailed quantity take-offs, managing subcontractor lists, and maintaining communication with trade partners. They will assist in researching construction systems and materials, conducting comparative cost studies, organizing estimate documentation, and ensuring accurate and up-to-date records. This role supports the estimating team in delivering precise and competitive bids while gaining foundational experience in the preconstruction process.
Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Support the estimating process to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with client expectations throughout the duration of the project.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, designers, and subcontractors to understand their needs and expectations.
- Review and analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to assist in preparing detailed time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Foster effective collaboration among project team members to support a unified and efficient estimating process.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with all stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Assist in preparing quantity take-offs and applying unit pricing for materials and labor to determine the value of the work.
- Develop a full understanding of the project scope by reviewing documents and engaging in discussions with the design team and owner.
- Assist in drafting qualifications, clarifications, and assumptions to support estimate documentation.
- Contribute to cost comparison exercises and reconcile estimates against previous versions or benchmarks.
- Support the subcontractor solicitation and selection process, including reviewing bids and maintaining communication with trade partners.
- Assist in preparing detailed scope sheets to ensure clarity and completeness in subcontractor bid packages.
- Participate in quality control reviews of all bids and estimates to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Contribute to the development of in-house budgets and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposals.

Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture or related field.
- Understands building plans and specifications.
- Safety standards knowledge and enforcement, OSHA 30 required.
