Are you looking for a role where your organisational skills make a real impact? Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is seeking a Business Support Coordinator to join our dedicated Business Support Team. This is your chance to play a vital part in supporting one of the county’s most essential services, ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes and helping us deliver for the communities we serve.

Our Business Support Team is small but dynamic, providing crucial administrative support across the Service and acting as the non-emergency voice of the organisation. If you thrive in a varied, fast-paced environment and want to be part of a team that values collaboration and excellence, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What you will do

As a Business Support Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the SFRS by delivering high-quality administrative support. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing correspondence – handling incoming and outgoing emails and telephone calls, ensuring queries are directed and resolved promptly.
  • Scheduling and diary management – organising meetings, booking rooms, and maintaining calendars for senior leaders and teams.
  • Document preparation and management – drafting, formatting, and proofreading reports, presentations, and official documents; maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
  • Data entry and reporting – updating databases, compiling statistics, and producing reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Financial administration – processing purchase orders, invoices, and expense claims in line with County Council procedures.
  • Meeting support – preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action points to ensure timely completion.
  • Customer service – answering non-emergency calls, providing clear and helpful information to the public, and liaising with internal teams to resolve queries.

You will need

  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work collaboratively towards shared goals, as well as independently.
  • Confident communication skills and a professional approach.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team

  • Based at Endeavour House, Ipswich, the Business Support Team provides assistance to multiple departments and acts as the non-emergency link to the public.
  • You’ll have opportunities to get involved in events such as Open Days and the County Show, and work with teams across the Service.
  • Office days are typically Monday–Thursday, with the option to work from home on Fridays. We’re flexible and happy to discuss arrangements in line with County Council policy. There would be a requirement to be office based during the initial training period.
