Job purpose
Elephant Family works to protect Asia’s magnificent wildlife in the most joyful and engaging way possible. To do this, Elephant Family engages its incredible network of supporters and partners through ambitious, unconventional and creative campaigns and events, while also building long-term funding relationships, to raise unrestricted funds for British Asian Trust’s conservation programme.
This new role of Fundraising Officer (fixed term for 12 months) within the team will be critical to our success and is focused on supporting the team to build productive and meaningful relationships to secure financial support for our vital conservation work in South Asia, through actively managing their own portfolio of opportunities while also supporting the team to be as effective as possible.
The post-holder will also play an important role in supporting the delivery of key Elephant Family events, ensuring guests have a wonderful experience on the day and supporting with collating guest biographies, managing the data relating to these events and providing wider administrative and project support as required.
Main responsibilities
Fundraising and relationship management
- Actively engage a pipeline of donors and prospects to secure income for our conservation work, with a particular focus on major donors and corporate partnership, either directly or in partnership with other members of the team.
- Support the team with donor cultivation and provide appropriate support and follow-up in all aspects of donor management, including attending meetings, writing briefings, coordinating meeting logistics, writing letters and proposals etc.
- Create best-in-class stewardship programme for key donors, prospects and partners including drafting thank you notes, creating and managing the annual stewardship calendar, writing donor reports and developing other materials as relevant.
- Handle general enquiries related to fundraising.
- Carry out due diligence and prospect research on prospects and supporters in accordance with the British Asian Trust procedures.
- Run reports to identify potential prospects and provide insight on supporter and prospect engagement and progression of opportunities.
- Support the team to systematically implement their engagement plans and track progress against targets.
Events
- Support the successful delivery of Elephant Family events including leading on key areas such as guest list management, briefings, fundraising activities, coordinating follow-up and invoicing.
- Be the point person internally for key fundraising events and initiatives and support with internal communications, coordinating meetings and tracking actions.
- Provide on-site support to ensure the smooth running of event, such as hosting key stakeholders, supporting with registration, managing fundraising activations and processing payments. Please note this will include some evenings and weekend working.
Data Management and Administrative Support
- Maintain up-to-date records of all communications with donors/prospects in Salesforce.
- Ensure stewardship of gifts, thanking and reporting is timely and of a high quality.
- Ensure timely processing of invoices and systematic payment monitoring.
- Provide reports on pipeline activity and budgets as required.
- Take the lead on financial processes, ensuring accurate financial information is shared with the Finance Team and that fundraisers can run accurate reports.
- Other administrative support as required across the team e.g. support with scheduling multi-stakeholder meetings, internal projects etc
In addition to your normal duties, you may occasionally be required to undertake other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the organisation.

External: Current and prospective high net-worth individuals, corporate partners, individual supporters, and their advisors
Job-related knowledge, skills and experience
Essential
- Experience managing a portfolio of donors and working towards and achieving ambitious targets
- Experience of fundraising through events and managing event sponsors and partners
- A proven ability to raise funds from high value audiences, with a track record of soliciting and securing four and five-figure gifts from high-net worth individuals and corporates, or equivalent experience from the commercial sector
- Experience developing new major donor and corporate fundraising opportunities, either directly or as part of a team
- Exceptional relationship management and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information at the highest level both verbally and in writing
- Expertise in presenting in a persuasive manner and negotiating with people
- A solid understanding of fundraising trends and practices, particularly in the high value space
- Strong skills in database management and problem solving.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, and a proven ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload, take initiative, and meet deadlines
- The ability to work co-operatively and flexibly with others, both within and outside the organisation, demonstrating an understanding of effective team working and partnerships
- Ability to produce high quality, creative and compelling materials, including word documents and powerpoint presentations.
- An understanding of the expectations of high-net-worth individuals and senior corporate individuals
- Strong organisational skills, including time management and project management with meticulous attention to detail
- Team player, highly motivated, tenacious and results driven with personal gravitas

- Experience of working within an international development or conservation organisation or charity
