Research Engineer Intern, Decision-Making na Instadeep

As a Research Engineer Intern in the London Research Team, you will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of advanced machine learning research. Working closely with experienced research scientists and engineers, you will help transform cutting-edge ideas into reliable prototypes and tools. Your work may involve implementing model components, building training or evaluation pipelines, running experiments, and supporting efforts to ensure reproducibility and good engineering practices.You will also assist with broader team objectives such as improving research infrastructure, contributing clean and well-documented code, and collaborating across different research groups. A good foundation in software engineering, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset will be key to making impactful contributions during your internship.

Role Responsibilities:

Support the efforts of the Research Team through the development of novel ML methods and applications under the guidance of our Research Scientists and Engineers.

Design and implement ML models for proof of concept and benchmarking.

Write high-quality, maintainable, well-documented, and modular python code.

Report and present experimental results and research findings, verbally and in writing.

Contribute to team research and publications.

Requirements:

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with at minimum an MSc in AI/ computer science/computational biology, or equivalent experience in a related scientific field, who possess a passion for AI and engineering. 

Enrolment in an ongoing MSc or PhD programme is not strictly required. 

Experience coding with deep learning frameworks such as JAX, Pytorch and/or Tensorflow, along with theoretical and practical knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, Reinforcement Learning, Bayesian optimization, Active Learning, and/or non-parametric models.

Excellent communication skills and collaborative spirit.

Good programming skills in Python.

Ability to contribute to research communities and/or efforts towards publishing scientific papers in leading journals or conferences (JMLR, ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, etc.). 

Legal Right to Work in the UK.

Beneficial:

Software engineering skills (python, git, unit tests, quality coding standards, …)

Experience in one or more of the following domains: programming in JAX, training models using DP/FSDP techniques, training LLMs, molecule design, generative biology.

Experience building and training and/or fine-tuning machine learning models for biological problems, ideally in domains such as structural biology, protein modeling, molecule design and/or drug discovery.
