Job Description:

The role

The Legal Counsel provides practical legal advice and support across a range of areas, including contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and privacy. Working under the guidance of the General Counsel, this role assists with legal tasks, ensures compliance with applicable laws, and supports risk management frameworks. The Legal Counsel contributes to business objectives by delivering accurate, timely advice and collaborating closely with senior legal leadership to manage legal risks effectively.

 

In this role, you will

  • Provide legal advice on applicable laws and regulations (Corporations Act, ASIC Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act, Privacy Act, APRA standards, etc.) under the guidance of the General Counsel.
  • Support compliance programs, regulatory reporting, and privacy obligations under the Privacy Act and CPS 234.
  • Assist with board and committee governance matters, including preparation of papers and advice on directors’ duties.
  • Review and draft internal policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts.
  • Ensure contracts support the organisation’s legal and business interests, including compliance with CPS 230 and CPS 234.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on contractual obligations, risk allocation, and legal exposure.
Qualifications:

About you

Exceptional communication and organisational skills, strong legal drafting and negotiation expertise, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure. You’ll deliver pragmatic, commercially focused advice aligned with business objectives and risk appetite, while demonstrating professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
  • Admitted as a solicitor / barrister in an Australian jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 2 years post-admission experience.
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
