Guthrie County Hospital has an opening for a Full Time Patient Care Tech.
Shift is:
Weekend Package
Friday, Saturday, Sunday 5:45pm - 6:15am
Compensation: $18.00 per hour to $24.00 per hour DOE.
JOB SUMMARY: Assist patients with basic care needs/activities of daily living under the direct supervision of a nurse. Provide effective communication with patients, family members, and staff. Assist in the coordination of interdepartmental patient care activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to and provide services in accordance with the written plan of care.
- Recognize significant changes in patient condition and notify nursing staff in a timely manner.
- Recognize the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of the populations served.
- Perform, read, and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry (under the supervision of professional staff) as directed.
- Perform EKG, glucometer testing, and venipuncture.
- Utilize basic infection control measures and demonstrate basic infection control measures including handling of hazardous wastes and safety measures.
- Demonstrate expertise in provision of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) for patients and deliver such care in a professional, safe, and caring manner including but not limited to:
- Transfers and ambulation
- Assisting with patient meals
- Dressing and grooming
- Incontinence care and toileting
- Bathing and hair care
- Nail and skin care
- Oral hygiene
- Participate as an effective member of the team.
- Respond to patient/family concerns.
- Provide immediate interventions when possible.
- Adapt to changes in workload and complete assignments while maintaining quality care.
- Initiate and perform duties which need to be completed although not directly assigned.
- Provide and support activities that ensure and promote patient safety.
- Demonstrate proficient technical/clinical skills and operational knowledge of equipment.
- Report variation in patient condition, staff conduct, equipment malfunctions or work conditions that may compromise safe, efficient patient care, to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain clean, healthy work environment free of clutter to prevent injury.
- Offers and provides effective communication.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers regarding patient conditions, nursing and psychosocial care needs, and changes in plan of care.
- Collaborate with other health team members ensuring that they are kept informed of patients’ condition and/or orders.
- Communicate effectively with patients and family. Refer communication regarding changes in patients’ medical condition to the nurse as appropriate.
- Perform and maintain documentation in a compliant, accurate and timely manner.
- Accurately document patient care and activities performed while under the supervision of the nurse.
- Report any abuse or neglect.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Current, active certification as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa and 75 hours of on-the-job training
- Certification must be in good standing with the Direct Care Worker (DCW) Registry of the State of Iowa
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Dependent Adult & Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training
- High school diploma or GED, preferred
