Position Status: 1 Full-Time Temporary if and when. This is an existing vacancy.

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for the general repair and maintenance of City roadways by performing a variety of road maintenance work including grading, paving, snow plowing, and sweeping. The individual will operate a variety of equipment in a safe and responsible manner including the completion of all pre-operational equipment checks.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid ‘DZ’ Class Ontario Driver’s License. Valid ‘AZ’ license considered an asset.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ previous work experience directly related to heavy duty equipment operation and maintenance would be an asset.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Previous municipal experience an asset.
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time, with no restrictions.
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Ability to drive and operate a variety of heavy equipment under varying conditions.
- Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations specifically concerning the requirements for job hazard analysis and the development of and training on safe work procedures.
- Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public and other partners in service.
- Must be able to be available for overtime and call-ins.
- This position will be subject to periods of lay off/recall from the various departments at different times throughout the year.
