Job Profile
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, and working closely with Communications Advisors, the Communications Associate provides communications support to the organization including the delivery of communications content, plans and campaigns for city services and programs through a variety of methods and vehicles.
The position writes content for internal and external websites, manages and monitors the city’s social media channels and content calendar, develops and implements campaign tactics, works closely and consults with service areas, and attends City and community events.
This position acts as the administrator to the corporation’s website(s) and consults with content creators and designers regularly. Liaises with external website platform provider, graphic designers, and Web Editors. Works with advisors to develop digital media strategies.
What you will be doing
- Support the execution of integrated marketing and communication strategies to assist the organization in building positive relations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Co-ordinate projects and campaigns that require collaboration of a variety of internal resources and cross-functional teams.
- Develop and coordinate communication materials and content that effectively promote the city’s programs and services.
- Develops awareness/education campaigns, concepts and event promotion via social media/web/external/internal communication tools.
- Maintain corporate identity standards as per the City’s Branding Guidelines.
- Research and draft feature stories, internal communications, presentations and media releases/PSAs/advisories upon request.
- Assists with daily monitoring and updates to website content and generates detailed analytics for performance reporting using analytics.
- Assists with support for departmental website content editors with technical training and day-to-day content management.
- Must have strong communication and time management skills and current awareness of digital media techniques and marketing trends.
- Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
- Work outside of regular business hours as required.
- Familiarity with eSolutions icreate software platform to publish and design client websites would be an asset.
Education
Three-year college diploma from a technical college or university program with a focus on web-based technology, journalism, communications, public relations and marketing.
Experience and Knowledge
- Must have strong communication and time management skills and current awareness of marketing techniques and trends
- Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Premiere for photo editing, digital design and video editing
