A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Chief Underwriter, Annuities, the Senior Underwriter assumes responsibility for the assessment and appropriate risk selection of our Enhanced Annuity caseloads.
What you will do
- Underwrite complex annuity (longevity) underwriting risks, according to RGA’s underwriting philosophy.
- Possesses a solid understanding of medical conditions and terminology.
- Manage casework loads to ensure completion within agreed service standards - in terms of quality, consistency, and turnaround.
- Apply technical knowledge to complex case work and communicate decisions to client companies appropriately.
- Act independently within specified authority.
- Keep abreast on related industry trends and advancements client.
- Build and maintains strong working relationships with clients by gaining knowledge of their business & processes.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- 5+ years in direct office or reinsurance underwriting, ideally with experience of annuities
- Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
- Ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team conversations and meetings.
Required:
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology, insurance contract law, and basic accounting principles as applied to risk selection.
- Ability to make decisions and explain the basis of those decisions via either written or verbal communications.
- Solid time management & organizational skills
- Ability to read and comprehend a large volume of medical information in a timely manner.
- Proactively builds strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients.
