Team Leader – Metals Section

This is a full-time position with Medical Benefits and a Retirement Savings Plan.

As a Team Leader, you will support the Supervisor/Manager in coordinating daily operations within the Metals Section. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, ensuring that deadlines are met, instruments run smoothly, analysts are supported, and quality remains at the highest standard.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate the day’s activities and assist the Supervisor/Manager with overall workflow
• Prioritize jobs according to rush status and client-specific deadlines
• Monitor workload summary and adjust resource distribution to meet turnaround times
• Liaise with Customer Service, Project Managers, Scientific Specialists, and Log-in staff
• Ensure instruments are functioning properly; escalate issues immediately
• Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety procedures, and QA requirements
• Support training, mentorship, and ongoing proficiency of analysts
• Provide technical guidance and daily support to staff
• Provide backup support to the Section Supervisor as required
• Review, validate, and/or report analytical and quality control data
• Assist in quality investigations (MIAs, NSCs, CARs, PDFs)
• Participate in audits, corrective actions, and document updates (SOPs, WIs, etc.)
• Assist in reporting Performance Testing samples (FAPAS, PTC, AIHA)
• Understand and support Sample Reception, Pre-processing, and other areas as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements
• B.Sc., technical diploma, or equivalent experience
• 3–5 years of laboratory experience (preferably metals/environmental testing)
• Understanding of OH&S practices and safe handling of hazardous materials
• Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory processes and automation
• Familiarity with LIMS
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to problem-solve and recommend solutions
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Detail-oriented with good record-keeping skills
• Flexible, motivated, and able to adapt to changing priorities
• Positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
