ABOUT THE ROLE
As Host and Reporter, you’ll be responsible predominantly for hosting and co-hosting a range of digital-first shows, podcasts and vodcasts, interviews and news video spanning both AFL and AFLW competitions.
The role requires producing, scripting and assisting with video editing of news packages, as well as developing rundowns for shows and podcasts alongside show producers. As a key part of the AFL.com.au editorial team, this role also includes opportunities to produce compelling written news and storytelling content.
Please note this is a max-term parental leave cover from approximately mid-February to end of November 2026, covering the 2026 AFL and AFLW seasons.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
- Host a range of shows, podcasts, and news video covering both AFL and AFLW
- Source and create news and storytelling content that can live across text, audio and video
- Collaborate closely with club media teams and broadcast partners to access players, coaches and pool vision
- Demonstrate strong news sense and decision-making with the prioritisation of stories
- Play a central role in the production of news video including scripting and editing, and work as a produce team with camera operators and editors
- Develop industry relationships to allow for great storytelling opportunities that uncover the personalities behind the players
- Attend matches, press conferences and training sessions on a regular basis
- Be creative in the presentation of your work, particularly with the use of vision and graphics
- Independently generate and pitch unique news and content ideas to the broader team
- You should be just as comfortable working in a fast-paced live event environment (matches or events) as you are producing longer-form storytelling and features
- Work closely with AFL Social team to promote and support content
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
Core Competencies:
- At least 3 years reporting or presenting experience with a multi-format platform
- A solid understanding and appreciation of Australian football, both AFL and AFLW
- Proven ability to produce clean, compelling copy or scripts to tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work on camera on location and in studio under deadline pressure.
- A strong and demonstrable record of working independently and generating unique content
- Willingness to collaborate with editorial, social and production teams on content briefs
- Knowledge of new and emerging digital media products
- Preparedness to work irregular hours including weekends and nights when required
Desired:
- Ability to break exclusive news stories
- An appropriate tertiary qualification or relevant training within a news organisation
- Video editing skills or experience in the production of visual news content
- Ability to tell stories in audio format – podcast, radio, and other relevant audio platforms
- Strong understanding of digital publishing of text, video and images
- A strong network of contacts in the AFL industry
