Job Summary
The job of Audio-Visual Communications Repair Technician is done for the purpose/s of
performing skilled work in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of low voltage
electronic equipment devices and systems providing information on the proper uses of
equipment; and ensuring that tools and materials are available to complete work orders districtwide.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT
CLASS TITLE: AUDIO-VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS REPAIR TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of Supervisor, Maintenance, perform a variety
of installation, maintenance and repair work related to District audio/visual and communication
equipment and systems.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
(Essential Duty)
Perform a variety of installation, maintenance and repair work related to District
audio/visual and communication equipment and systems; inspect and make major and minor
electrical, mechanical and electronic repairs to still, motion picture, and film strip projectors,
video recorders and other related equipment. E
Install, troubleshoot and repair District phone and communications systems; test and repair
phone lines to assure proper operating condition; wire new phones and communication
equipment as needed; notify phone company of repair needs for phone lines. E
Service and repair television receivers, radios, radio-phonographs, tape recorders,
microphones, head sets, sound systems, and related audio-visual equipment. E
Install sound systems for special events; utilize volt meters, scopes and test equipment in
performing repairs. E
Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions with telephones, answering machines, fax machines
and phone switching equipment; reprogram phones and phone systems as necessary. E
Plan and lay out assigned tasks; estimate and record time, labor, and materials; perform light
custodial chores; assist in other maintenance areas, as assigned, by performing unskilled,
semi-skilled or skilled duties. E
Repair and monitor District portable and built-in public-address systems; set-up related
systems for events as directed.

Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electronic equipment repair
trade.
General phone system operations, maintenance and repair.
Basic electrical and electronic theory.

Wiring and programming systems for communications equipment.
Shop mathematics applicable to the electronic equipment repair trade.

Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
ABILITY TO:
Perform skilled electronic equipment diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work to District
audio-visual and communications equipment and systems.
Install, troubleshoot and repair District phone and communications systems.
Utilize the tools, equipment and materials of the electronic equipment repair trade.
Perform shop mathematics.
Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions with telephones, answering machines, fax machines
and phone switching equipment.
Plan and lay out audio-visual repair.
Estimate labor and material costs.
Work from plans, specifications, diagrams, and technical manuals.
Operate a truck, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Maintain simple records.
Maintain tools and equipment used and assigned in clean working order providing proper
security.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Work cooperatively with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level
course work in electronics, audio-visual equipment repair or related field and two years of skilled
level audio-visual equipment repair and experience working with communications equipment and
systems.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

Requirements / Qualifications
Experience - Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education - High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalency - Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in electronics,
audio-visual equipment repair or related field and two years of skilled level audio-visual
equipment repair and experience working with communications equipment and systems.
Valid CA Class C Drivers License
