Description
The position of Shop Supervisor is an exempt employee who is responsible for the overall daily operations of the maintenance facility and remote maintenance operations, including all exterior parking and driving areas. This position coordinates and oversees all maintenance functions.
Specific Duties are to include the following:
- Reporting to the Area Maintenance Manager and with dotted line to the Terminal Managers you will be working directly with the Terminal Manager(s) in supervising the maintenance staff(including hiring and disciplinary actions, assisting other maintenance staff members, coordinating and assists in the shop when vacancies occur, evaluates performance provide technical training and safety training.
- Working with the technicians to ensure fleet inspections and repairs are performed as outlined by the company and maintenance manuals established for each type of vehicle. Maintain the fleet to comply with State and Federal regulations in both time and mileage intervals.
- Working with the terminal team to ensure defects noted on the drivers' defect reports are being repaired in a timely manner. It is understood that no vehicle will be released for usewith any defects that affect the safe operation.
- Prepares reports on maintenance metrics and KPI’s for review with the Terminal Managers and the Area Maintenance Manager. Assist in tracking warranty and recall repairs,
- Ensures maintenance staff members maintain accurate and complete maintenance records when the repairs are made.
- Must be able to lift up to 100lbs and to operate all shop equipment and supervise other maintenance staff members.
- Ensures maintenance staff members maintain a clean, organized safe shop.
- Works with the terminal managers in coordinating work schedules and shop hours.
- Helps develop and implement quality control programs.
- Performs research in maintenance techniques, write reports and memorandums as required. Assist in the evaluation of fleet replacements. Provides recommendations concerning equipment requirements and specifications.
- Coordinates the use of outside vendors and verifies performance of those vendors. Provides technical assistance in the preparation of service contracts.
- Audits and helps control parts, tool, and fuel inventories.
- Must be able to respond after hours and to emergency situations when required.
- Must have or be able to obtain a CDL for the purpose of test driving or the transfer of equipment.
- Ensuring all employees are qualified and trained for the jobs assigned
- Must be willing to listen to drivers concerns and treat employees with respect and as a customer.
- Participate in the annual financial budget for the respective facilities.
- Management of financial expenses under maintenance along with operating within budgetary guidelines
- All duties as may be assigned by senior management
QUALIFICATIONS
- State-Required Commercial Driver's License with School Bus Endorsement
- Current driver physical examination
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five or more years' experience in as a mechanic in repairing school buses or heavy trucks or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of tools, procedures, technical skills and safety rules used in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered equipment.
- PC skills (use of Microsoft Office Applications), Vehicle component software and vehicle maintenance software skills. Written and verbal communication skills, and customer service skills are essential. Ability to deal with problems and find solutions.
- Must have knowledge of Federal and State transportation regulations, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
- Must be willing to participate in classes that are offered to enhance knowledge on maintenance or technical techniques.
- Must have a sense of and have implemented programs to drive efficiency and best practice methods. Must be willing to lead a shop team who work in a disorganized and inefficient maintenance facility to work in a model shop environment.
- Must be willing and ready to recruit, train and develop solid maintenance staff members.
- Must conduct oneself in a professional manner
- Ability to evaluate maintenance staff and discipline when necessary
- Must highly motivated and demonstrate excellent leadership skills
- Must make sure staff utilizes all safety equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normally in an operations environment. Incumbent must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours on school days and 8 hours on non-school days and be available in the evenings and on weekends as necessary to meet business needs.

This position may require travel to other facilities operated by the company, including the home office located in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania
