Job Description:
This is an entry level, unclassified position in Bursar Operations at LSU. The Staff Accountant 1 assists with both Workday Student and Workday Customer-related issues, reconciles accounts monthly, and performs tuition and fee testing.
30% Participate in the Bursar's Office registration process for 10 terms annually. Provides assistance to students, parents, and departments regarding the registration process and general account inquiries. Assistance is provided daily by phone, email, virtually, and in person. Must be able to interpret a customer's record, give a complete and accurate explanation of the account, and, if needed, refer the customer to the appropriate department for further explanation, information, and resolution.
35% Assists the Bursar's office with Workday Student updates and issues. Performs daily testing on tuition and fee charges to ensure student's are being charged correctly. Assist coworkers with questions about Workday student processes. Review reports for accuracy. Assist with the Unapplied Payment Reconciliation report and various ledger accounts.
25% Assists with Workday Customer for employee-related balances. Assists with troubleshooting issues, reviewing discrepancies. Reconciles the Non-Student Accounts Receivable ledger with outstanding invoices and the undeposited customer fund ledger monthly. Works with other departments to correct customer-related issues.
10% Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field with 24 hours of accounting.
Substitutions: 2 years of directly applicable professional experience can be substituted for 24 hours of accounting, or 2 years of professional experience can be substituted for up to 9 hours of accounting. Physical Qualifications: This position requires the physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer terminal, calculator, laptop, tablet, copier, telephone, and other office equipment. This position requires the ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time using continuous hand motions when using a calculator or entering data into the computer system. This position requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively through the use of phone, email, and direct contact with individuals (including conducting training sessions and presentations). Scheduled or non-scheduled overtime may be required to meet the needs of the division. Occasional travel may be required.
This position regularly engages in financial matters, including handling credit cards, cash, grant funds, or other university funds, and must undergo a credit check per FASOP HR-04.
