Department of Visual Arts at Hastings College welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Art - Glass. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 2026. The position will require the successful candidate to oversee all aspects of a comprehensive Glass Program and manage its respective studios and equipment. Candidates must have significant experience within relevant disciplines of the Glass Program’s curriculum, including hot-glass, sculpture, kiln working and cold working. Please note that the hotshop comprises the primary facilities of the Glass program. As such, candidates with significant hot glass experience will be given priority consideration. Other specialties and experience are welcome for implementation per the capacity of the current facilities.
The successful candidate will oversee both hot and cold glass studios, including: maintenance of specialized studio equipment, requesting equipment repairs, ordering supplies, overseeing materials, and inventory, and maintaining a high level of safety, cleanliness, and organization in these studios. This position includes the management of student assistant hours, as well as conducting demonstrations for the campus community and general public. The candidate will maintain an understanding of, and ability to implement current health and safety operating procedures and material data safety standards.
In addition to teaching Glass Studio courses, the successful candidate will be expected to periodically contribute to the department’s academic offerings through teaching the Senior Thesis capstone course and Art History on a rotating basis. Please indicate your capability and preparation for teaching in these areas. There are also future leadership opportunities associated with this position, as the role of Department Chair is also undertaken on a rotating basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will hold an MFA in Glass or Studio/Visual Art with a focus in glass. Demonstrated teaching experience is required, either concurrent to, or following graduate studies. Extensive experience with glassblowing, hot sculpting, kiln working and cold working are necessary. Experience operating and managing a comprehensive glass facility is preferable. Evidence of significant professional activity (e.g. exhibitions, workshops, public lectures etc.) is required. The ability to work well as a member of a department and campus community is essential.

Jackson Scholars Program - In Fall 2025, Hastings College will launch the Jackson Scholars Program. This opportunity will fully fund 10 Visual Arts students per year. The Director of this program will be an integral part of the department, facilitating opportunities and programming for the students.
