Job Summary
This position is designed to adjust auto property claims for private passenger and business auto policies. It will also involve handling property damage liability claims from other policy types to include homeowners, business owners, commercial package, personal and commercial umbrella. The adjuster sets up the claim, investigates the accident or loss, determines coverage applicability or exclusions, makes a liability and deductible decision and processes payments along with applying the appropriate surcharge or subrogation demand.
Responsibilities
- Set up claims within either the WMS or EXCEED system from information received via fax, mail or phone call from our agent, insured, claimant or other person
- Determine and applies coverage and limits
- Gather information from witnesses, claimants and insureds in order to assess coverage, liability and damages
- Handle private passenger and commercial auto property claims in addition to property damage liability claims from Homeowners, Business Owners, Commercial Package, Personal and Commercial Umbrella policies
- Use various software applications and databases to adjust claims
- Identify bailment and subrogation opportunities
- Make liability and deductible decisions and processes payments
- Foster and maintains relationships with agents and policyholders through effective communication and excellent customer service skills
- Resolve claim issues with insureds, claimants and attorneys
- Apply accurate Massachusetts Standards of Fault or appropriate negligence statutes to establish liability
- Utilize vendors to assist with investigations, as necessary
- Identify the at-fault party, his/her insurance carrier, if any, and negotiates adverse subrogation claims
- Handle small claims lawsuits, including representing Safety at court proceedings
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- College degree or commensurate experience is required
- 2+ years handling personal and commercial lines of insurance is preferred
- Demonstrated success handling complex auto claims
- Licensed in New England states is preferred
- Superior organization skills and attention to detail required
- Customer service experience required
- Excellent communication skills required
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
