Edgemont School District – School Business Manager Wanted
Edgemont School District 23-1 is seeking a highly skilled and dependable School Business Manager to join our small but mighty Mogul team. This position plays a vital role in supporting district operations by managing all financial functions, human resources processes, and compliance responsibilities. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to the success of a rural K-12 district where every role truly makes an impact.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial & Accounting Management
- Oversee the district’s full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and journal entries
- Prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Education and Superintendent
- Lead annual budget development, budget monitoring, and year-end closeout
- Process payroll accurately and on time, including deductions, benefits, and reporting
- Complete all state and federal financial reporting requirements (including annual reporting, audits, and special program reporting)
- Work collaboratively with auditors, state agencies, and vendors
Human Resources
- Coordinate HR functions, including job postings, hiring paperwork, contract preparation, and personnel file management
- Manage employee benefits, payroll changes, FMLA/leave tracking, and retirement system requirements (SDRS)
- Serve as the main point of contact for staff regarding HR processes.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws
Additional Duties
- Support grant accounting, tracking expenditures, and submitting required financial documentation
- Maintain purchasing procedures and coordinate vendor relations
- Participate in board meetings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Experience in school finance, public entity accounting, or HR strongly preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy
- Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and payroll/benefit systems
