Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, is responsible for responding to calls for service involving loose, injured, deceased, and sick or neglected animals within the city limits. Maintains the City's animal shelter and its occupants. Provides for the welfare and safety of animals.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED preferred
Valid Texas Driver License with acceptable driving record
Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work for your assigned work hours.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with injured, sick, deceased, or aggressive animals
Must be responsible, reliable and prompt.
Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to create statistical and other reports
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with animals' needs and safety issues; and tolerate loud noise associated with barking, and other animal noises.
Ability to adapt to a variety of conditions such as daily walking, climbing, standing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, running, bending, crawling, stretching and reaching.
Work outdoors in any and all types of weather and/or inclement conditions; and in confined spaces.
Perform general cleaning, maintenance and other duties as assigned during shift(s).
Maintain food supply for animals and feed them on a regular basis, including weekends & holidays
Set up and monitor animal traps, keeping record of where and when they were set.
Take animals to veterinarian for medical treatment when necessary
Issue citations and appear in court, if required, for city ordinance violations

Working Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Catch poles. heavy work gloves, metal cages and traps, leashes.
Posture: Walking, climbing, standing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, running, bending, crawling, stretching and reaching.
Motion: Twisting, frequent rapid change of direction when in motion
Lifting: Frequent light to moderate lifting; occasional heavy lifting
Environment: Extreme temperatures, bright sunlight, windy and humid conditions, rain and muddy areas, animal urine and feces, animal hair and carcasses.
